Hmm... the 350Z has better aerodynamics than a GTI. A Z with the aero package has a .29 drag coefficient, while a GTI has a .31.

I don't mean to nitpick. I love GTIs, for sure. Very cool cars. There just must've been something else going on that allowed a chipped 1.8t to hang with a Z. Well, unless VW has done something new to the 1.8t engines since I owned mine. In my 2000 Audi A4 1.8t, I had a lot of power mods (including a GIAC/K04 turbo upgrade), and my A4 was not even close... not even in the ballpark... as fast as my Z.

Weird...

Whups I wrote my sentance wrong. I meant the 350z's aerodynamics allowed it too pull on me after 3-4 cars! the 350z got me by 3-4 cars when we went from 100-120mph. There ya go.

And yes my gti was atleast in the same ball park in straight line acceleration as a 350Z. Love those kO3 sports haha. little baby turbo. Usually GTI's with the Apr 93 Chip/CAI/TB make around 200whp and 240ft/lbs. of torque.

But yes i love the 350z more. I gunned it with VDC off in 1st and 2nd and my rear ended swirved from side to side! my first RWD i've owned =)

Yeah that car was a quick lil guy.

I just bought a 2003 DB 350Z 6MT Touring though =) love it.

Was the video of the viper against a black civic? Cause I've seen that video and its in houston. Totally clean civic.
Had a 2002 GTI with APR 93 , Tactonics Turboback , HKS BOV , TT Shortshifter , Sprint Springs lowerd 2 inches and traded it in for enthusiast 6speed 350 Z , and my friend still has his 2002 5 Speed GTI with same mods like above mine GTI and has no chanche vs my stock Z from a roll or from a dig.

My first RWD also, unless you count my old pickup. (I don't.) I know what you mean about the fun of RWD.

As far as the recent GTIs... did you say they use a K03 Sport? So VW is putting a slightly beefed up version of the K03 in there now days, eh? I guess that, combined with the low drivetrain losses of FWD, could combine to make 200 whp. Wow. At my A4's peak, with the K04 turbo upgrade and everything, I was only getting about 185 whp... but AWD had a lot to do with that low number I suppose.

awd has everythign to do with it. wrx owners put like 160-180 or osmething like that to the wheels, and they're rated at 227.

Yeah my gti was an 03 with a kO3 sport (basically a kO4).

the guy in the Z had his girlfriend in the car with lol, so maybe thats why i kept up? she wasn't fat though haha.

It's a street race, anything can happen. You can throw a beginner in a STI and he could still lose to a stock civic. When you race you obviously need skill and having a better performing car to back that up is even better. Don't know about auto though, just push the petal to the metal. Maybe having a bigger foot gives you an advantage?

The circumstances aren't always the same even if it is the same car, some might be freak cars and come out with a few extra hp then normal stock, but then again some come out with more problems then others. Luck of the draw.

The new VW GTI R32 isnt looking too bad .. 6spd .. AWD .. 240 hp to the flywheel .. sounds mighty fine to me. yummm.
