Stillen Generation 3 long tube intake for VQHR
#181
I'm sure it's from the strut bar... There is like zero clearance between the strut bar and the intake pipe... It is a horrible metal on metal sound that only happens when I'm in drive and when I accelerate.. It never happens when the car is in park or in neutral.

Clean engine pic like I promised. (Taken with my BlackBerry, Ugh!) Only 14,000 miles on her so it was fahbreezy.
Nothing yet. Once it cools off a bit I'm going to get another local Dyno to see what I've gained since my stock reading. I did though add the JWT, HKS and Berks when this was installed so I will have no clue what or if they actually put out any power.
I just know it's very loud and exotic sounding at WOT! It also enjoys gas more...I'm not blaming it on the heavy foot!

Drivers side is where my noise was coming from too but didn't seem to get any resolution when discussing with Stillen, just left it. Now what is odd, after I got a new clutch/flywheel install the issue stopped....I know it's two un-related things but the shop didn't tell me there was an issue they noticed with sounds so......yeah.

As a workaround/temporary fix, why not slip a piece of rubber between the intake tube and the strut bar? For a long-term resolution, I would loosen all hose-clamps and anything else affixing the intake to the vehicle and see if you can push/adjust the intakes further down towards the ground for more clearance.

This is the first time we've seen the tubes hit the STB.. I would definitely check the installation.
Please give us a call if you continue to have issues, perhaps we can help you or the shop make the appropriate adjustments to correct the install.

I installed mine about a month ago and it took twisting and also making sure that the second tube(the one going through to the bumper area is the correct side) was on the correct side to get it not to hit. When I first installed mine they vibrated on the strut housing. What a pain. Also had to drill into the metal plate that is used for holding the upper portion of the bumper to use the holding brackets that Stillen provided(lacking instructions for this in their sheet) so I didnt have all kinds of slop in the intakes. But once all in after a lot of twist and remounts they are a great intake, just take some time and effort.

I'm looking at these pictures of other peoples intakes and my stillen logo on the drivers side is exactly where others are(whose don't rub).. This noise is driving me nuts...I really hope that the shop I am going to can fix it...

i just installed mine. sick intakes, fast shipping, but lacking instructions on the holding brackets that Stillen provided is kinda poop. install of the intakes was easy. i took my time and i have no rubbing much better than my fujita sri.

uggg... Went to another shop today and they couldn't fix it... Does anyone know of any aftermarket strut bars for the HR that will give more clearance? I really don't see any way to fixing it... We tried adjusting the pipes and even re-installing them and nothing..
