LOL, this thread cracks me up. So much misinformation. Personally I don't think a catch-can is a worthwhile mod unless you've somehow damaged your rings..
What is the correct information then? I was told by a professional tuner (Funtion: Tuned) that I needed a catch can. It never caught anything in 1.5 yrs but I still feel like I need to replace it because I damaged it. Now, my PCV line is just chillin in my engine bay and I have it pointing towards the ground.
I had a Greddy catch installed in my 07. I took it out because the hoses that came with the catch can become pinched under the heat and pressure, and it create a whistling noise. I am thinking about re-install it with some stainless steel braided hoses due to fact that there is quite a bit oil and brown oil mark in and between my upper and lower plenum. I will try to post some picture tomorrow.
ZOMG, I just figured out why I wasn't catching oil. My can was installed on the wrong side (RED). It should've been installed on the passangers-side (YELLOW):
I'm not sure why it was installed there but I'm going to change it to the proper location. Ironically, I did notice the lower plenum and intake mani were filthy when I was doing some upgrades recently.
LOL. This thread was entirely too informative for me to not post my concerns. I got the information I needed so posting here was better than starting a new thread and going through the whole motions.
Run a catchcan in the "proper" location for about 70k miles and pull your plenum off and check out your tb and you "shouldn't" have any buildup...ppl without one will.
