Default AEM vs. stock intakes + uprev?

Before people start jumping on the flame wagon,I bought my car and it already had the AEM intakes on it.I have read most of the reports of no power and whatever.i have not driven an HR car with the stock air boxes so I don't know what the difference would be.I am about to put some HFC on and get an uprev tune done by Sharif at forged. Before I go should I obtain the stock air boxes or should I just have what I got tuned.I am assuming the results would be negligible to spend the money on boxes and k&n filters,if the tuning might make up for most of the difference. Thanks for the help, Steve

Yes. For the VQ35HR motor I recommend stock air boxes and washable K&N filters.

if you already have aftermarket intakes, just leave it be. There is no point switching back to stock; most people say the stock intake is good enough, and switching to aftermarket may yield or lose 1 or 2 hp.

Stock or swap out to cold air intakes if you are going to buy intakes.

i believe injected performance sells cosworth air filters for the HR, they are reusable as well in case you didnt want to have to bother with all the oiling and cleaning! but the HR's stock setup is already beastly

I found a set of stock air boxes and tubes for $50 local, ordered a set of K&N filters at work today for $75.00.So I'm gonna go that way.

fail.

K&N is a waste IMO plus you have a chance of over oiling them and ruining your MAFS. The OEM paper filters are fine. Anyone who claims to have gotten "1-2 hp" from K&N filters only got that because their new K&N's were clean, compared to their dirty OEM filters. Besides, 1-2 hp, give me a break!

Unless you plan on keeping your car for a very long time and cleaning and oiling those filters (which is kind of a pain by the way.. and car has to be out of commission for a few hours for them to dry, etc.), then you spent more money on the K&N filters too over just buying the OEM cheap paper ones once or twice.

Stock boxes could be a tad better in the HP dept. but you'll lose the sound of the AEM's (if you care about that). I would have just left it alone or upgraded to long tube intakes. The only thing we say about short ram intakes is don't BUY them. Well you already had them for free.. shoulda left it alone IMO. Just my two cents..

And sorry I didn't get here earlier.

well i installed my airboxes today, and for not having driven my car with them,i must say that I am dissapointed. They make the car feel lazy.I had instant throttle response with the aem's.i guess I'll give it a couple days to learn.

with the k&n drop ins i noticed a lot better throttle response over stock (paper filter) . . . like a huge difference . . . . better than adding my nismo s tune exhaust
