Default 370z Engine Swap Questions

Originally, I was thinking of keeping my car stock until I had an interesting conversation with a former 350z car owner but now 370z owner at a dealer. Im at Mr. Tires dealer fixing my tire when one of the customers notices that I have a 350z. We started talk about 350z and 370z and some how the conversation leads to the topic about the engine. He tells me, which I find it hard to believe that the 370z engine block is the same but its just that the engine is modified for more HP. After that conversation, I decided to do this process because I have done it before from an 2002 Trailblazer to a 2007 Trailblazer engine and also done steering wheel swaps with both my 350z and trailblazer.

I started doing some research to see if a 370z engine swap is doable but so far no threads about it. However, I did find out that the 370z headers fit on a 350z HR engine.

I have an 08 HR and one day though about doing a 370z engine swap IF and I said IF my engine blows up or I rear end someone that it messes up my engine. Since nobody has confirmed it in any post is it possible to swap a 370z engine on a HR 350z since they are practically NEARLY the same engine just that 370z is more modified for more power?

having done the opposite HR head on my VHR sine I blew the VVEL,, it was a lot of work.

the engine is almost the same but the electronic running the VHR engine is not the same and they dont use the same CAN Protocol so good luck on your adventure.

unless you like having a Christmas tree light into your cluster.

Wow thats some great info that you provided. And yes i agree the electrical wires are going to be different so ill definately will have to get a 370z wire hardness. But the can protocol was something i wouldn't image.

I agree that its it a lot of work but i will still do this task whenever i get the chance.

I appreciate your response XChacalX.

Going from a de to a HR woul require about 2K worth of wiring if you didnt want your cluster to look like Christmas tree lights.

The HR produces almost the same H.P. Don't look at Niss. listed ratings. Better to get a 4:08 rear gears and you'll destroy almost every 370z except if they are not N/A.

There's much more to a VQ37VHR swap than merely swapping harnesses. The electronic architecture between the two models is so different, that the Z will never run error-free without a standalone ECM. How you'd integrate the BCM and ABS computers in the car is another matter.

Bottom line: DON'T blow up your HR. If you must have a VQ37VHR, sell your car and buy a 370Z or Q60 coupe. It'll be way cheaper in the long run...

Of course im not looking forward to my HR lol, im just looking at it in a hypothetical situation. The reason I thought about it is because I have heard people talk about Nissan cars dying out around 70k+. Of course there have been owners that have pushed the mileage over 100k+ with proper maintance.

I don't have the money to buy or trade another car. But if the situation every erodes then I might do it yet.

I don't know where and who you heard this from, but at 70k we are just getting started.

seriously, forget about the VVEL engine.
It is far to be the best engine and easily overheat. Add to the fact of the big wiring job you will be required to do and to get the different electronic part of it because its not just an ECU swap & the engine wiring harness.

there is a reason why the racing teams are swaping the HR head on the VHR bottom.
Which I also did , spend that money on another built HR that will make more power and less headache than the VHR.

Having a 370z, I can tell you that I proud that I removed this VVEL **** off ...

but if you really want to put a VHR ,,, it wont be any different than the 240 guys doing it.

There is ALOT of wiring that needs to be done in order for it to work.

This is basically the only threasd with any info on the swap. So regaurdless your looking at 1500-2K just in wiring whether you have a DE or HR.

I'm at about 213,000 so far and running strong, sure I've upgraded a few bits and also replaced cheap parts that have gone bad, but nothing has been catastrophic and I'm convinced that I can drive this car well into the 300,000 range.
