Default need new stock 17 tires, Please Help

I have a 2004 350 with 26,500 miles on it and need to replace my tires terribly. The Nissan Dealership in Fort Worth is quoting me about $950 to replace the stock Potenza's. I have been calling around and was told by a GoodYear Dealer that he can get me som Toyo Proxies TPT 94V's for $614 installed and balanced. I really need some education on this because I don't even know if my wheels are feathered? I don't know if I should stick with the 235/50R17 and 225/50R17's or move to a different size? Plain out I just don't know what to do and am a little irritated that every 25K I know I'm going to have to replace front brakes and all four tires. I usually put about 600+ miles a week on Annabella and don't want to give her up for a commuter!! Please Suggest and fill me full of the knowledge.

I was also interested in getting a new set of tires for my stock 17s. I looked on discount tires webpage and saw that the stock sizes were 225/50R17 for the fronts and 235/50R17 for the rears. I saw they had a good price on the Falken 512’s which seemed to be a pretty decent tire. For the 225/50R17 they are V rated. But for the back tires they didn’t have a 235/50R17 just 245/45R17 which are W rated and discount claims these are “plus zero”. I heard it’s a bad idea to mix and match different speed rated tires even though both tires are Falken 512’s. Also is that thickness going to be too much? Will the car ride higher? What are other cost effective options for the stock 17’s? thanks

You need to call them or go to the store because their webpage does not list all available option. I bought a set of Kumho ESTA 712s for my 95 vette a few months ago but I had to go to the store to get them. The web site did not list them.

i was thinking about changing to 245/45R17 all the way around. My car will sit about .1 inches lower in the front and about .3 inches lower in the back.

Has anyone tired this set up? it would be nice to have all 4 the same size so I can rotate them. I have heard (on this forum) about people using 275's so I doubt there will be any problems with the new width. But if this set up will greatly change how the car performs I won't want to go this route just to save a few hundred bucks.

What about 245/45R17 up front and 255/45R17 on the back? That would be very close to keeping the stock ratio and about .8 inches wider than the stocks.

I heave heard the widest you should go on the front is 245 and 275 on the back. I am planning on getting 245/45/R17 all around so I can rotate the tires. Try out the Kumhos, Sumitomos, or Yokohama. Look at www.tirerack.com

b/c the rims are the different sizes in the front and the back rotating the tires will require you to take them off the rim each time you roate them.

in my old car I could just changes the wheels around.

I think i may try 245 and 255. I know some tire places let you try tires out for 30 days and if you don't like them you can return them so I may see if I can do that.

Default I am selling stock tires.

Hey guys, I have a set of stock tires for sale, front and rears off the 17 inch stock wheels. They have 11,500 miles, it might seem like a lot, but they have loads of tread depth on them as I don't drag race or do burnouts. I live in NJ, so you'd have to cover shipping, but I'll sell them for far less than you're looking to pay for new tires. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks.

Default thanx all I went Toyo

Hello all,

Thanks for your suggestions, I went with the stock sizes TOYO PROXES V Rated on front only and will buy back ones in about 20K more. They have more of a life on them. I took my car to Courtesy Nissan to see if I really needed all four changed b/c the only trouble was the inner side of the fronts. After taking it in thier shop and a half hour later, the consultant that has been with my car from the beggining said that the Fort Worth Dealership was trying to take me for a ride on spending 1K on a set of tires. He recommended just replacing the fronts since Nissan wouldn't foot the bill and check around tire shops for those sizes. He said that he didn't care if I bought them from him or another shop but that they did need to be replaced. I like Courtesy Nissan and have never had any trouble, I have had trouble at trophy and thornhill in fort worth. Beware they just want your scratch. I ended up contacting a small shop who sold Goodyear only and the guy said he could get TOYO's at a really good deal and would give me the whole set installed and balanced for 611.00. So I got the front two for 320 and told him I would be back for the rears in about six to a year. He said to bring it back to him every 5K and he would rotate FR to FL and FL to FR so that they would last longer and that as long as I kept purchasing from him he would do it for free. Nissan wanted to charge me 90 bucks at Thornhill in Fort Worth and they gave me some BS about having to remove the tire from the wheel even on the same size wheel and tire and that is the way these cars were made. I thought that lady was full of smack. Anyway pumped about the new tires and have about 3K on them. Life is good the road is smooth and my ride is a lot quieter. I HATE THORNHILL!!

I hate to burst you bubble, the lady is correct. If the tires you installed are the recommend tires they should be directional and you cannot rotate them without removing them from the rims.
