What you will need is a speedometer recalibrator. If the linkage from the tranny to the speedo is mechanical, this is a small gearbox that bolts in-line with the speedo cable. If the linkage is electronic, then it's a small timing generator that connects in-line as well.
More important than getting your speedometer to display correctly, is that the ECU(s) get corrected information so that ABS, VDC, speed limiter, etc. don't freak out on you.
Perhaps one of the guys with the tech manual can tell us what the linkage type is. I'd be willing to bet that it's electronic. You can find programmable electronic recalibrators from BlackRobotics and AutoTrans.

actually the sidewall on the 17s is about an inch larger(slightly less) so the outside diameter is very close to the same as the 18" rims. and people have put 19s on the car before without much trouble. the difference between them is very minute, and when you do the math you find the speedometer isnt even off by 1% while the error in the speedo is probably higher than that.

tire wear also provides error in speedos. heck, most speedos are calibrated at 55mph and that's about it. anything else in the range.. and it can be off by a margin of a %age.
19's would look great, but unfortunately my main concern would be drivability - it will be a little harsher and a few little bumps and you'll need to get them repaired or some new rims.

Track350z is right, if the diameter of the whole wheel with tire is about the same , its not going to make a big difference, and ofcourse if your gonna get bigger wheels, you wanna out low profile tires on it, like some 30 or 35 series
