Default Will the polished lip wheel go out of style?

I've only had my wheels for a couple of months, but I am seeing the polished lip look everywhere now. I figure I'm good for a year or two, but after that, are my wheels going to make my car look old? Do others have the same concern?

I think polished lip with color center will slowly go out of style

I agree with NismoGcoupe that the polished lip and colored center will eventually go out of style but I don't think it will happen anytime soon. Think about it, what type of wheels can wheel manufacturers come out with, that look better than a polished+deep dish wheel?

I think the polished lip look is too classy (for lack of a better word) a style to go out. If I was worried about being in/out of style, I'd be more worried if I was going with a black/gunmetal rim. At least in my part of the country, black/gunmetal seems to be the choice of about 75% of people buying new rims right now.

I don't think any car with a more modern wheel looks good period. I like the old cars like supra, 300zx, starion with 16 inch BBS mesh and 3 spokes.

The polished lip has a "classic" look to it, I don't think it is going anywhere. The colored wheels may come and go, but that lip is here to stay.

bronze, black and gunmetal will eventually go out as they get more popular.

It's not going to go out of style. The polish lip design was around when the sport compact scene exploded in the early 90's. The Work Meister S1 design has been around since the late 80's! The design is not going to ever get old.

Well I know I'm in the minority on this one, but personally I've just never liked "lip." I don't like the term, and I think it's just some arbitrary metric people have latched onto like "how big are your bell-bottoms?"

The reason I don't think it will last is that all the wheels seem to have the same overall design (huge lip is the central theme), and it will get old. It will always be around in some form, but it won't be the big thing forever.

- Lip will get bigger until it gets too ridiculous, then nobody will want it anymore

- So many wheels will get made the they'll be on every POS, then the the people with money will go in a new direction, and companies will try every mutation they can to try to sell wheels.

- People will do interesting things without "lip" to have impact, and then everyone will gravitate back.

I mean, look at people here buying 19s and 20s and beyond. People are buying wheels for fashion, and that's how it goes with fasion.

Also, black will go out fast because you can't see the wheel design well enough. It's just "oh there's a black wheel."

automotive trends usually follow high end cars, so if you want to know what will be in... take a look at the exotics and Japanese drifting scene. I personally feel the deep dish look will never go out of style, its been around forever... there will always be fans of the deep dish. But the next main trend could possibly be the race car look, 17" - 18" light weight wheels shot with some hardcore tires. Just get whatever looks good and screw whether its in trend or not...i mean after all, u can just sell them off when you get tired of them!

will be interesting to see what happens...but theres arnt many more directions the wheel world can go...its pretty much limited to lip (stepped and not) and no lip

polished lip is the standard, and will probably stay that way...but i remember considering a color matched lip with black spokes when i ordered my wheels...sure woulda been different and cool to see....

the only thing thats a guarantee is that the manufacturers will keep popping up and more and more selection will become available...better for us

"Out of style," as in the next 100 years? My '81 911 came with black center, polished lip Fuchs wheels. It's not a new trend, not sure what everyone is talking about.

how many cars did you see rolling around in the 1980's with polished lips? not many thats why its consider a new trend I'd say 75% of 350z,g35,330,m3 etc. when going aftermarket wheels get something with a polished lip

not many did in the 80's, because of the positive offset required for fwd cars, which dominated the market at the time (and pretty much still do). I had the hardest time in 1985 finding any rims at all for my first car, an 83 sentra. But, Camaros, and Mustangs have always had deep dish wheels available.
