light wheels
I've always liked the GT-C's, but I'm hearing that Volk wheels are heavy. Can anyone shed some light on the subject for me?? Are the volks heavy?? What are the lightest (quality) wheeks out there?? I'd like to stay with 17's for racing, but I do like 18's. What do you think?? What are the pros and cons of 17's and 18's?? Any info. Thanks

ok...
volk 2 piece wheels are heavy
volk 1 piece wheels like the ce28's and the te37's are pretty light
other lightweight wheels that are one piece are enkei rpf1 nt03+m and rp03
If you want a light 2 piece wheel
you are looking at the work meister s1, the ame circlar spec r, the ame circlar spec rs
If you are looking for the ultimate lightweight wheel
go enkei
saves your wallet as well as some weight..

Also what i noticed a lot of people doing is getting larger rims then needed for the tires they can fit. If you ultimate goal is the lightest rim that fits on your car in a given diameter (18,19 etc" for example). Then a 9" with the right offset is all you need. Unless you plan on going larger than a 285 or 275.
Then get the minimum amount of rim because a 19x9 is a lot lighter than a 19x11 or 10.5. If weight isn't "that" important then it doesn't matter. Know what i mean?

I have Volk 18" CE28's, and they weigh in at around 18lbs.. Doesn't get much lighter than that. Any forged mono-block rim will be the lightest. Unless you go with Magnesium wheels.

Whether or not Volks are heavy partially depends on your definition of heavy. The GT series is heavy compared to the forged one-piece ones, like the TE37s, LE37s, and CE28s wheels. In 19" sizes, the one-piece Volks weigh about 20 - 21 lbs each, and the GT series weighs mid to high 20 lbs each. I've heard people say the GT wheels weigh anywhere from 24 - 29 lbs. My guess is that they are about 26 - 28 lbs each, in the 19" size.
When compared to the Z's stock 17s or 18s (not the forged Track wheels), I would think the GT series is not much heavier, if at all. When compared to the 19" wheels made by Stern or ADR, the Volks are still pretty light, with those wheels weighing it at close to 35 lbs from what I've heard.
When making your decision, decide based on what you want. If you like the GT-C's, I'd say get them. They aren't THAT much heavier than what you've probably got already. If you are going to track your car often, you may want to go with one of the fully-forged, one-piece wheels, and save yourself a good amount of unsprung weight, but just for cruising around town, I think you'll love the GT-C's. I bought my GT-V's knowing that I wouldn't be tracking on them. I have the stock Track wheels still, which weight just over 18 lbs each, that I can use for autocrossing.
Two other things to keep in mind as well:
1. While most people consider all Volks to be forged, the centers of the GT series are actually cast.
2. Don't forget to consider the weight of the tires. The same size tires from different brands can have a 5 lb weight difference, probably even higher. So if you're really counting the lbs, don't overlook the tires!
