Default widened stock g35c wheels to ~10.5inches

posted on g35driver too, I thought I'd put it here too...

sent out stock 8in rear rims to a place in MI

www.weldcraftwheels.com

$150 plus ~ $20 shipping per wheel

v-grooved welds on both sides of rims. clean beads

the aluminium bands weigh just under 2lbs.

widened rims to: 10 & 3/8 in

I have 25mm H&R spacer on the rear & they gave me about 3in of space to work with.

I wrapped them in Goodyear gsd3's: 315/35 r17

I've always liked to look of the stock rims & wanted to keep the sleeper effect.

one pics is a comparison of the orig 235's -vs- the new 315's
also the 315 next to the more recent 275's

Let me know how that 315 fits. You really should use an 11 or 11.5" wheel for that size tire.

Just curious to why you did that with the stockies? Wouldn't it be better if you were to widen nice looking aftermarket rims instead? Well unless you are absolutely in love with your stockies...

If you get in a wreck and insurance company sees that the wheels have been widened and welded back together do you think there would be a problem?

its completely safe... I think its better than aftermarket because you've done something that can't be bought of the shelf. You see the car from the side its just stock, untill you get behind it then its holysh!t.

Scary...I'd never do it. Definitely not b/c I race, but even for daily driving...that seems sketchy...

I was contemplating doing this as well.. I know a lot of people that have gone to weldcraft and their work is pretty good. There really is no safety issue as long as the welds and the add-on metal is sound..

Anyway, is the diameter of the 315/35 the same or close to the stock diameter?? What are you running in the front??

I don't think you guys realize how many wheels are made of two halfs that are welded together or bolted together. Every 2 and 3 piece wheel in the world is put together this way.

I am really concidering doing this to my track rims. The only flaw is that they are too narrow. I think I could widen them for the tire sizes I need and not gain much weight. Much better than buying a set of new volks for racing.
