so for a nissan Z i always read the same names over and over for the rims u guys talk about, either something like Hiros, Volk, Hart, and obviously Nismo (just to name few) but how come its always the same names? cant any rim go on the car? aslo as i was searching i noticed in the discreptiosn they have RWD set and FWD set..so we would have to get the RWD set right? an FWD set wouldnt work? as i was looking, Fifty One Fifty seemed to catch my eye (black ones) and yea i was just wondering becuz the ones you guys talk about the prices are like 3-5 grand, and the ones i found were ~$1500. so is there a reason the other ones are so much higher, quality or weight or something? or just brand? just want to see whats okay and whats not..sorry im a noob any info would be appreciated. TIA.
You can put any rims on the car that fit.
The brands you see over and over again usually have specific fitments in mind for the 350z. And often they are of much higher quality than your typical "ebay" rim.
Examples:
Bolt pattern: 5-114.3
17-20" diameter
8.5 - 11" width
(depending on width) Offsets in the +12 to +30 range
Usually people tend to buy wider rims and tires for the rear... makes it easier to keep the overall diameter staggered properly without altering the look of the car.
And if you're going to make a post about some random brand of rims, (I have never heard of "fifty one fifty" so I googled for them and could not find anything), then please include links and especially pics.
It's actually annoying to click on a thread that says "what do you think of these wheels?" and see nothing but an obscure brand of rim listed. Pics and links help greatly.

FWD wheel options have offsets and other design features that make that wheel applicable to FWD. The link also says the wheels are 20" and that would add a LOT of reciprocating weight to the Z. Remember, this weight will sap acceleration, reduce cornering and make braking more difficult. Is this really what you want from your Z?

As for being "original", or "making an attempt at personalization", I went with the BBS RGR model in Diamond Black. Now there's a wheel you don't see everywhere and yet it maintains a lightweight design (forged 18" with 8.5F and 9.5R) that allows the Z to perform even better than with the OEM Rays. So IMHO, there are wheel options out there, but that 51-50 wheel is definitely NOT IT!

There are dozens of manufactures making wheels for the 350Z with prices running fro $100 to $1,000 plus each.
Study the technical section at the tirerack.com about various materials and manufacturing process to get a better understanding of quality, weight, strength and price.

ADR has some pretty nice wheels for the price. Usually the more expensive wheels are lighter. I'm debating between chrome 18" ADR M classics or black 18" Motegi Racing touge. I'm leaning towards the Motegi's. With staggered 18"x10" and 18"x9" sizes.
