Default Widest drag radials on 17x8 wheel?

So whats the widest drag radial you could fit on a 17x8 wheel? I have my stock 17s but wanted something like a 275/40-18 drag radial. Any suggestions?

Stock rear 17 is a 8.5 i believe.I have tucked a 275 40 on a 8.5 but would not recommend.

I know 'corsair' (Sean) is running a 275 drag radial on his OE 17" rims...he's had them on there for more than a year with no problems. The tire buldges out a bit.

If you are going to the expense of drag radials, them OEM wheels are not suitable: they are too heavy. What is the point of reducing 60-foot times by 1/10 second, and increase quarter mile ET by 1/10 second because of heavy wheels.

As far as proper size, check with the tire manufacturer for reference. Bigger is not as important as proper fit.

does he already have lightweight wheels and going to use the heavier wheels instead? otherwise, i don't see how his ET would increase by keeping the same wheel and only replacing the tire.

Drag radials will always or should always be an improvement over your typical street tire track times.
