Nitrogen Tire Filling Benefits...

Nitrogen permeates through the tire 3 to 4 times slower than oxygen.

Tires maintain pressure longer for better fuel economy, better tire life, and increased safety.

Nitrogen reduces oxidation to tire rubber and rims caused by oxygen in standard compressed air.

Nitrogen filled tires run about 20% cooler than tires filled with standard compressed air - tires last longer.

With that in mind...I would re-filled/stick with nitrogen.

i think close to 75-80% if our air is nitrogen already.....only F1 cars use nitrogen in their tires....I see it not worth the money....it does make a difference, but the difference is so small on the street ....

Just about every professional race series utilizes nitrogen in their tires. From F1 to Nascar to Dirtcars.

The difference is pretty huge. The moisture in normal air corrodes your aluminium wheels pretty bad.

Maxi,

To answer your question.. Yes, you'll be alright.

Yes you can mix air with nitrogen, no problem. but if you've got nitrogen in their already you might aswell stick to it, the benefits are huge, especially in the long run.
And no, not only F1 uses it. EVERY motorsport in the world uses it, even most amateur racing!

Wish I could find a place around here to do a nitrogen fill. I know Shell stations tried Nitrogen a while back, but it never caught on due to the cost and people's ignorance. I'm sure tire sellers didn't complain...

Stay with nitrogen! The main reason why racer use it is since compressed air has water. With air and water, you will see huge pressure differences with a change in temperature (tires gain temperture by just rolling on the ground). Nitrogen's pressure changes less with temperature and is predictable!

I have filled aircraft tires with nitrogen, but not car tires. As loulinjai mentioned, 80-percent of air is nitrogen. On the street, 100-percent nitrogen is overkill.

Its not about how much nitrogen is in the air, its about the moisture in compressed air. Compressed air has moisture, which is water which makes unpredictable temps. Compressed nitrogen is dry, so it has far less moisture, and therefore makes it more predictable and your whells and tires will last a lot longer.

If cost is so much an issue about this, then don't go and fill it at a station, buy yourserlf a bottle of nitrogen, which you can pick up at any decent hydraulics place, and fill your own tires. A bottle of nitrogen is cheap as chips, and you can get dozens of tire fills from it.

Or just go to Costco and fill it for free!

Just don't fill your tires up at gas stations ect. Those air compressors that sit out side put out about as much air as water... You can see this by running the compressed air on your hand and you will feel the water vapor.

I go to a friends shop and fill with his air compressor since it has a seperator and drier on it, it is the same air source he uses for his paint booth so its really clean...

I had the same issue several weeks ago. I had to take my car in to get service anyway so I got it refilled then. I have been using Nitrogen since I won a free filling at my Z club car show last summer. It works great.
