Personally, I think it's a bad idea. Especially if it's only costing you $50. You want to "tint" them? What does that mean? If you want to get silver rims to be black, you pretty much need to powder coat them. That sure is hell is going to cost a lot more than $50.

He's probably talking about having the rim's PAINTED, not tinted. If that's the case yeah it should be alright. It's not that expensive to have done because it's not hard at all especially if you have the tools. My dealership had my front rims repainted when they scratched the sht out of them fixing my feathering, and I watched the guy do it. They look new you can't tell the difference. I think a dark grey would look better than black but who knows.... try it and see... if you don't like it you could always have it repainted again.

There are plenty of photos in the gallery. Take a look and see if you like the idea. If you like it - do it: Its your car not mine.

why would the rims need wheel cleaner?? Most of the stock rims are painted from the factory to begin with. I never use cleaner on mine and they clean up just fine... or am I missing something???

You must not use your brakes much, Mine get coated with dust that only a good wheel cleaner can remove. (Not to mention the occasional Tar and road grime). The difference after using a quality cleaner is amazing and cuts a lot of the elbow grease out.

Some wheel cleaners are Pained WHeel safe (All-Wheel Cleaner like Megquires) but some are only safe on Chrome or Magnesium.

I am just giving him a word of warning to be careful.

starting next week ill be powder coating my wheels and door handles, shaving the rear emblems, painting black the front bumper lip and the indent for the license plate. I am also like you smoking out all the lights and signals, and maybe doing racing stripes. I'll start a thread w/pics when job is complete

Actually, it only takes me one driving session to get a noticable film of brake dust. It's just dust though. No matter how much accumulates it's never glued on or anything. Just touching the rims will make it come off. I've never needed any special cleaner to clean the rims. For me they are a piece of cake with just soap/water/brush.

Understandable.

Can this mod be done without dimming the lights? Blacking out the taillights is one mod that makes me nervous. It looks good and would be easy to do, but with all of the unobservant morons on the road, the brake lights are the last thing I would want to make harder for anyone to see.
