does anyone have a link for where to buy some black wheel paint/spray? I'm throwing my stocks on for winter and I think I want to paint them black. I want more of a matte black though, nothing really glossy?

 

just go to auto zone or pep boys they carry wheel paint

 

I used duplicolor semi-gloss black available at most auto part stores. For the clear coat i used duplicolor matte clear and it turned out pretty good, but if i painted them again i would prefer a little more gloss. I'm not sure what would be the best combo, you have to play around with a combo of gloss/semi-gloss black undercoat and then gloss/matte clear on top and see what gives the shine and finish you want. If i ever paint a set of wheels black again I'm going to try gloss black with a matte clear to tone down the shine. Also, prep the hell out of them before you paint them. Mine never chipped after numerous tire changes and even after i curbed them a little, the paint was solid.

 

I've had a bad experience with the wheel paint, i used some on an old bicycle and the paint was very brittle, it chipped quickly and didn't stick too well. I prepped the surface properly and i'm pretty good with a spray can so maybe it was the conditions. It is always really humid here. Has anyone else used it?

 

do you have a picture of your wheels so I can decide whether I want semi-gloss or gloss?

I suggest engine enamel at autozone on the cheap.
BTW make sure you get the finish you want with the paint, don't expect to be able to polish the engine enamel, it dont work.

Take your time and do it right otherwise it will look rushed.
Prep work and Finish are key

Mine was high temp 500+ low gloss black. Sanded with 400 wet/dry then spraied with rubbing alcohal (removes any grease) and then 5 light coats to make a smooth low gloss finish.

^^very nice looking....did i spy a 6er of coors? was that to prepare you to not turn back? what color did that end up being? that is the type of color i will be going for (dark metallic gray).

 

I'm not familiar with using spacers, what would they do? Make the rims stick out more?

I ask because I really like the Rays OEM Track rims and am trying to find some to buy and wanted to know what I would have to do special if my Z is lowered.

 

spacers push the wheel out closer to the fender. It is just for looks.

Lower the car first, let the springs settle, get an alignment, then if your wheels look sunken, take a ruler and measure how much you want the wheels to move outwards (in mm). Then buy that size spacer. I have those rays track wheels and I am lowered. I will be grabbing some 20-25mm spacers whenever I get around to it.

 

I have rays oem track wheels on my Z lowered by 1.5" maybe more (buddy club coils), and running 20mmf/25mmr wheel spacers. I was running 245/45 in the rears with no problems but ended having to roll the fenders with 255/45. IMO it looks sooo much better with the spacers. When i lowered the car, the wheels even with the spacers look tucked in I may need to go 30mm in rears,...or upgrade to 19" TE37s
