Default Tire pressure monitors on aftermarket rims?

Just curious, will it be possible to install the tire pressure monitors on aftermarket rims? Thanks!

2003z,

Did you have any luck getting the TPS mounted in your iForged wheels? (btw, nice wheels! read your story over on 350zfrenzy)
If so, did you use that banding material you found at Hosexpress?

I bought the bands, but the tire shop recommended against using them,. Said they had a banded corvette's monitor come off on the balancer and it ruined the tire. So, since the previous tire shop I went to scraped up a wheel trying to dismount my tires (unsuccessfully, at least they stopped when they realized they were causing damage), I left them in the old wheels. The iforged design turns out to be such that I believe they will work with standard mounting procedures, though. I Won't know for sure til these tires wear out and I give it a shot.

Bands are fine. I have had them for several months now. Works great. You have to take the wheels to a shop that knows what they are doing though.

I would generally expect them to fit on most aftermarket rims, if they are 8-10" J (JATMA, TRA, ETRTO) rim profile with a ~20 deg +/- 2 valve angle.

One thing to watch out for is the sealing surface of the aftermarket wheel, the rim profile in the vale hole area (inside the tire when mounted) should be flat or have a counter bore to facilitate good rubber (sensor seal) to metal (wheel) contact. (Bad sealing = safety risk)

Many wheels I have looked at have a sufficient flat area and drop well to install the factory sensors. That said, allot of the wheels exhibit a condition of the sensors being proud faced compared to the safety humps adjacent to outboard bead seat (The stick out too far in the radial direction). This will require allot of care not to break the sensor when mounting and unmounting tires. (Broken Sensors = $$$)

Looks like your getting Volks, I look at a volk last week and it looked good for mounting the stock sensor. Hope the ones your getting work well for you.
