Default How often should valve stems with pressure sensors be replaced?

I've done a search and haven't found an answer to this one. In the past on my other cars I usually have the valve stems replaced when I get a new set of tires. The 2006 Zs have pressure sensors in the valve stems. Are these valve stems and sensors durable enough to last through many tire changes? I assume it would be a major job to replace these stems and sensors, since they would have to be purchased from Nissan and then recalibrated. What's your experience on this? I've only got 4500 miles on the Z but I was wondering what happens when tire replacement time arrives.

They can't be replaced, it's an integral part of the sensor. It's probably not a bad idea to replace the rubber O-ring on the stem after a while though.

Bob, the answer you seek is that the Tire pressure sensors have a permanent, non replaceable lithium battery inside. Per the folks in the UK who manufacture this item for Nissan (I talked to their US rep), the battery is rated at 7-10 years life "under normal usage". Keep the stems on until your dash display gives you a flashing light, meaning that potentially one of the sensors is not sending a signal, which could be the result of a loss of power. In other words, drive it and enjoy it! Past cars have a rubber valve stem that deteriorated faster than the metal stemmed TPS stems. Like Dave mentioned, the rubber O-ring is only susceptible to deterioration over time.
