PICS of OEM tires with 15,900 miles
Well, here are my original tires. It's about time to put them out to pasture.
They have:
2 Track Days
3 AutoX's
7000 miles of very twisty highway
9000 miles of pretty straight highway
It's been fun, but it's time to say goodbye

you are so lucky to not have any feathering. I just rolled over 10k miles on my tires, and the feathering started at around 4k. My tires are well passed feathering, they are considered 'cupped.' They REALLY need to be replaced, but i don't want to buy new tires with my GT-C's comming in about a month from now. I figure i'll just keep driving on them and see what happens....

I guess I was one of the lucky ones without feathering problems.
Car pulls to the right though, but seems to be primarily due to the crown of the road.
All in all, the tires performed very well.

Tires
D'oh, that looks excellent, perfect wear pattern, except for one thing, your not driving aggressively enough if you got that many miles out of your tires.
Raceboy hit the proverbial nail on the head. We have a lot of high crown roads here in TX. I test my steering by driving on the R then L then in the center.

Plus, I take offense to your aggresive driving comment. If you look at the cross section of my tires, you'll see that the outside edges have been rolled over nicely, while the insides are practically brand new...
I've got an appointment tomorrow to get some Yokohama AVS ES100's @ 245/40-18.
We'll see how well they work.

I'll have to be a partial voice of dissent... it sounds like a lot of people have feathering problems, so push for a fix... do not sue Nissan... In the end, you'll only be raising the cost of our cars.
I also, am one of the lucky ones... Noticed original tires feathering about 6K miles, had it fixed at 7K miles (alignment and feathering TSBs enacted at dealership) and put on my new wheels/tires about that time. I now have 15K miles (8K miles on new set up) and have ZERO tire feather now.
It did in my case...
I don't agree with this... it could be a problem with the tires. In my case, the TSB either fixed the problem or switching from RE40s to SO3s fixed the problem. It could be that tires with compounds/tread patterns similar to the RE40 will exhibit this problem while others may not. It's not a great situation, but I would not rule out there being a tire issue... particularly where the RE40 is concerned.
Considering our suspension settings, this seems a possibility. I drive pretty agressively on twisty roads which is the majority of my driving. Maybe why I don't have feathering now????
Also have noticed this... on left side of road, car pulls left a bit; on right side of road it pulls right a bit....
Good luck with the recall/lawsuit. I for one will not sign on... I have nothing to complain about.
And for the record, I don't think Nissan is trying to "screw" anybody on this. If there is a clearly identified issue, they will probably come up with a fix. The issues so far are
1) that not every Z has this problem so it may be difficult for Nissan to determine exactly what is causing the feathering in some cases and not in others... it certainly doesn't appear to be a certain "production" range of cars
2) when the cause is finally identified, they have to engineer a fix... which takes time.

blue z guy... tonywenzel... fromwhat everyone is saying... allighnent doesnt fix the problem...
And when you file the complaint, dont file it as an issue with the TIRES!! (there is a selection - you will see what im talkin about)
90% of my driving is on the highway so i am mostly giong straight.. perhaps this is a straightline problem rather than a twisty problem
Because of our suspension geometry, the car is sensitive to the crown of the road. I drove on the wrong side of the road a few times just to make sure.

From Discount Tire Direct:
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...odeIndex=44503
Traction: A
Temp: A
Treadwear: 280
$172.00 (not installed)
Try just the plain Discount Tires for the installed price (I think around $200)

I, too, have not indulged in a burnout, although I have been tempted a few times. I am at 8500 miles and close to the tread bars... UGHH! I don't even drive agressively ! I already got new rubber on the front at Nissan's expense, thanks to my major feathering issues. But, my rears are gone ! Its nice to have a car that doesn't sound like a freight train under 30mph again, but boy it would be nice to have some new rubber on the back from Nissan. I already went to 2 Bridgestone centers and was told by both that my rears are 2-3 degrees out of balance, resulting in excessive wear. I wonder how you tell Nissan thanks for the front, but guess what, you guys didn't put the rears on right either ?? What a mess...
