there is no such thing as hard and fast rules when it comes to width, offset and tire size on offsets that low and widths that wide unfortunately, because ever tire is different. Some tires might still rub, some won't - only way to know 100% for sure, is to try it

this is 17x9 +22 front and +17 rear. 275/40 with 255/40 front. To run 275/40 fronts i'll probably have to pull the 5mm spacer off the front.

If the 17's fit over your brakes, run the 17x9+35front with 5mm spacers. It is very important to keep the +30 of the Z cars suspension design. If you run the incorrect offset your Steering Axis Inclination (SAI) will be off.
What does this do? Well it will make your car "tram line" pull on the more rutted freeways. The "nervous" feeling that a lot of people have with their lowered 350Z's is just one issue. I ran with 17x9+35 fronts, a 5mm spacer was added 3 months later , stock ease of drive came back with spacer.
Talk to a serious Miata road racer and they will tell you a over 3mm off of stock and the car drives bad.
My current set up is RPF-1's 17x9+35f w/275/40 and 17x9-1/2+38 w/285/40. No clearance issues,.
I like my car to handle and "stupid" light wheels make the car much quicker on the throttle and the late braking gains will have you buddies disappearing in the mirrors. I suggest a JUN chromoly flywheel for even more fun.
Very light weight wheels need a harder brake pad to raise the operating pressure @ abs engagement point, this raises the frequency of oscillation of the solenoids= more responsive and effective abs.
