Default Widest tires on stock 18's?

Yes, I searched, we dont have the most advanced search system though lol. Just wondering whats the widest size tires I can put on the stock 06+ rims for the front and rear. Buying new rears soon for xmas and was wondering if I could go any wider. I know it will probably make me understeer worse, but as soon as i straighten out my work hours, ill buy new front tires.

Also any suggestion as to going with a different category of tire, as in the whole ultra summer, max summer, bla bla bla..... I drive all year around, but I take my mother jeep out when its icy or snowing. I know summer tires suck horribly when its freezing out but I just take it easy. I was looking at the Falken 452's, they seem to have good ratings and a nice treadwear. My days of donuts are done so I want to keep the tires for as long as possible this time but still want the grip obviously.

If it matters, I dont have VDC. Thanks.

Pretty sure the factory 18's are 8" front and 8.5" rear.

widest recomended tire for a 8" is 245

Widest recomended for a 8.5" is 255.

Some will tell you they run 305's on 8.5" no problems and say they could even go with a 315 LOL, yet I still have not seen pics of this. No tire installer in the world is going to recomend that size anyway.

You could probably run a 265 rear safely depending on your profile but you're not going to get any more rubber on the ground than with a 255.

RE050 has a 265/40-18 that should be fine on the rear, then do a 245/40 in the front when you get a chance.

I've mounted 275/40s on the OEM 17x8 rims on all four corners without issues (with 2" drop all around). Having said that, the best setup for the '06 rims (with stock suspension) are 255/40s in front & 275/40s in rear. If you want a fast setup with good grip, 265/35 all around is best.

Pick any size that you want. Some member will tell you that it will work.

Lol im sure they will davidv, thanks guys. Ide prolly go with 255 in the rear and 245 in the front i suppose. I assume they would still be 245/45/18 and 255/45/18 or should the sidewalls be smaller, since i know the fronts definetly arent as high as the rears.

You will gain little of no performance advantage with an additional 10 or 20 mm. What will make a difference is tires. A superior 255 mm tire will outperform a mediocre 275 mm tire every time.

Very true, but right now im going with the 452's because I heard theyre great, and theyre pretty cheap from what I've seen. Not sure what category theyre in but for 135 each, Im sure they will be 10x better than what I'm driving on now. I just have enough tread to show the pattern of the tire now, and yet 2 friends with FWD have crashed in the 2 days of crappy weather weve gotten. One tried to ebrake drift...... sighh, the other taught him how.... and the other claims he drifted across the road on ice at "10mph" and hit the curb sideways in his gti. So both have FWD and good tires and both cars are pretty messed up suspension wise. I have a lot of power, and bad tires, how do I avoid accidents? I drive like a human...... lol
