Default Steering got lighter with front tire replacement

Already searched...

After getting nails in both front tires, I decided to buy a new pair. After getting them installed and getting alignment, the steering feels much, much lighter. I know that tires have a break in period so I'm guessing that after they're broken in, the steering will get back to its previous heavier feel (I prefer that heavier feel). Also, I checked the steering fluid and it's at the proper level.

So if anyone has a different opinion or knows for sure I'm wrong and that my front axle will fall off, please let me know.

I know what you mean. I put my stock wheels/tires back on for a few days and the steering felt much lighter and it turned a bit quicker.

different air pressure in the tires could cause something like this. 45psi and 35psi makes a world of difference.

Yes, bought the same exact tires to match the un-nailed rears and used the same exact pressure (35 psi, factory spec).

After reading Tire Rack, they said that tires are lubed to separate them from the mold so some of that excess lubrication may still be present on new tires. The mold lube should wear off as the tires break in. I'm hoping this happens soon so I can get back to the previous steering feel.

+1, my steering felt sluggish the other day so i checked my tire pressure. due to the weather change my tires had slowly dropped to 25psi, inflated them back to 35psi and the steering was felt lighter before the pressure drop.

New tires will definitely alter steering feel. Lighter, heavier, skittish, whatever. In a few thousand miles you will be accustomed to the tires and say “Gosh these feel just like my old tires.”

Since new tires have more thread depth, there is more flexing from the rubber blocks on the tire than you are used to. If your punctured tires were new as well, I'd think you have over inflated tires.
