Clam,

What was your reasoning for not going to the 255 all the way around? Just curious.

There were no tires in the Extreme Summer Tire Category that were in the size of 255/45/17. The current size I was driving on were 275/35/18 tires, which were about 3.7% shorter than stock. I wanted to to keep the same gearing like I had for the 275/35/18, so I went with a 245/45/17 tire instead of a 255/40/17 tire, which would shorten my stock gearing by 6.5%.

Maybe I'll try a 255/40/17 tire after I go through these sets. Right now I'm just trying to re-learn the car on skinny tires and don't want to introduce too many variables in the learning process.

True. I suppose a lot of it will lie in how your region picks its emphasis on course design....whether faster or slower. The shorter gearing may actually help if it's the latter.

Most of my region's course design are wide open and fast. However, I can see how the shorter 255/40/17 would help with the tighter and slower course designs. My 2nd gear would top out at 67 mph with the 255/40/17 tire instead of 69 mph with the 245/45/17 tire. But my main concern, is putting the power down. I won't know which set-up works for me till I go out there and drive.

OK, I don't get it - where did I go wrong -was going to mount the new PF01's (with +15, similar to a lot of the RPF01 setups I've seen on this thread)and look how much they stick out from flush -here are shots or rear 10.5 +15

front

rim sizes are 9.5 front and 10.5 rear +15 on all four. Isn't this size and spec similar to mosrt oif the RPF01s on this thread - and they don't appear to stick out anywhere near to what are doing. Obviously have to have these exchanged, very disappointing day.

iffest, and before tires got mounted,

those are pretty aggressive offsets, but people run them... get the tires mounted and set the car down and you will find, they aren't quite as bad as they seem with car car up in the air.

IMHO, a +27 on a 10.5" wheel is about where one wants to be. You can run just about any size tire without rubbing/rolling and still not look tucked. So figure you are only 12 mm off that.... 12mm isn't that much, maybe a bit more than the width of your finger
