Advan problem. anyone heard anything like this?
Recently purchased a set of 19" Advan T6 here from another member. Stated they had 2k on them. The condition of the wheels seemed to verify that. Extra clean. They were packed very well, no shipping damage is suspected. That member insists they did not hear this noise. I have no real mileage on them since purchase. Within a mile or two from the tire shop, I noticed some clicking. Basically, as the wheel rolls, it's popping or clicking loudly from the hub area whenever I turn slightly or the wheel is on an incline. I drove a few days to and from work while tying various attempts to fix it, then noticed a rear wheel making the same sound. On a very cold day, I heard no sounds.. then on the last day I test drove it, I swear I heard the other front making the same sound. Thats 3 of 4 wheels. I've had them very closely checked by various shops, the wheels are perfectly round, no visible cracks and nothing to indicate any damage whatsoever. Very frustrating.
3/17 update: Tried on another member's Z (idwin), same noise...
Video is worth a 1000 words,
http://www.timware.org/MVI_1635-1.wmv
http://www.timware.org/MVI_1633-1.wmv
done so far...
cleaned face of rotor and face of wheel
cleaned lug seat, taper is not damaged, lugs are not loosening.
with torque wrench, started with 85lbs, up to 110lbs
does it with hub rings, metal and plastic.. and without
dismounted tire, lubed bead, inspected thoroughly by at least 5 other people at the shop.
3 different sets of lug nuts. From small stock ones to wide bulge acorns. 2 sets were brand new.
tore down brakes, brackets, retorqued. (before I isolated it to this one wheel)
brakes turned.
this wheel does this on any corner of the car, not just this one side. Other wheels on this corner dont make the slightest noise.
no bearing issues.
and so much more... everything I can think of really.. everything 2 shops could think of.
no visible cracks of any sort. no indication of any thing that could be causing this.
there are no vibes.
its quite louder with load.
will do it over bumps, or dips, not just turning
this is killing me.. been trying to figure this out for 3 solid weeks.. I really love the look of these wheels tho

Tim, do you have TPMS ?
2 things it could be if its not the TPMS,
The wheel could be pinching the valve stem on rotation. You need to isolate the sound to the point of contact.
Or it could be a problem with the hubcentric (or non hub centric) wheel.
I just bought a set of H&R 25mm spacers if you want me to bring one by tomorrow to try and see if it makes any difference spacing or with the hub ring.

I have 3 brand new BFG KDW2 245/45/18 sitting in my garage if you want to try isolating the tire.

no tpms. using the ray style valve. didnt see any sign of contact when dismounted.
I have 2 sets of rings. without, plastic and (in the vid) nice metal ones (with the proper flare and fit), the sound doesnt change.
If it turns out to be the tire, I will lose my mind at the shop. I already had to go down there because the bead was leaking on the other side.

Put a spacer on it and see if it makes a difference.
Put the wheel on someone else's car and see if it makes the same noise.
I think it's the valve stem personally. You got metal ones?

when I swapped the wheels around, it followed the wheel. can drive hard on the other wheel on that side and not a peep.
i can put some pressure on the valve stem and roll forward.... will try that later tonight... thx for the suggestion

Have you tried putting your stock wheels back on just to verify it wasn't the car? It might sound dumb but I'm just wondering. Probably won't make a difference.
This is weird. Did it make this sound on the previous owner's car?

no issues on stockers
the previous owner said he heard something once but said it was lug related when new, tightened and it went away, definately not that issue. i've tried 3 sets (2 were new)

bump - I'm really frustrated with this.
I just dont understand.. the Option Z can flip off the road at 200+mph and not break a TCII.. I just have a hard time accepting one of these could be broke (and no obvious damage). The selller as been open and honest (I think). I'm at a loss and have alot of cash tied up in these now.

just an update. Put them on Adam / idwin's car and they also clicked, not related to my car. Wish I had tried this first. He also could not see any visual clues to what is making the noise.
I bought some Rays lugnuts because the taper is just huge and it made no difference. The marks on the new lugs (3rd set I've tried) showed perfect engagement.
The seller and I arent exactly happy with each other right now (not gonna air that here). I dont know what to think about all this. Aside from this noise, the wheels are pristine and totally in spec (Hunter machine). But I do know that I dont think I would buy another set of Advans. There just arent any clues to this noise, other than it being cast in multiple pieces and something is not right. Clearly the TCII doesnt have these issues, but you dont really see the T6.. maybe there is a reason. Shame, these wheels are hot.
Another note about buying Advans, when I just thought one wheel needed replacement, I tried to find one through a few vendors here. I feel like they all tried to get answers from Mackin, but I never got a call back from anyone. If you have Advans, dont break one. ever. At least not in our fitments. I'm not knocking our vendors, I wasnt able to find out through the seller who he purchased from. But still, it is much more painful than just a long wait and alot of money to get a replacement. It seems impossible.

Sorry this might sound stupid but does it make the noise going backwards?
another way is to figure out some way to spin the wheel just by itself. With the tire and without the tire. It sounds to me like something is loose and rolling inside your wheel and another thing is to take the valve stem off and shake it.
I was watching the vid closely and it looks like it makes the noise every time the valve stem is the closest to the ground. I'm guessing it's your valve stem and when it loads (when it's closest to the ground) the air inside the tire is pushing on something inside the valve stem.
Good looking car by the way!

actually when Adam came over Sunday, we put the front on the rear of his car because it was most convenient and he doesnt have VDC. He didnt have to drive 1/2 a block before hanging a U turn and coming back to the house. Adam was like, "I cant even hear that well and that is LOUD, it would drive me crazy". I concur
