This can be a good thread to help others on tires as well... so feel free to post good info...


What are good daily driving tires to consider?

My commute consit of highway and city... roughfly 50 miles... 5 days a week
I have no clue on how to choose a tire other than Size..and dont want to get screwed in to buying "BS" tires that will be left behind on the streets...(from driving) oh and Yes, I live in TEXAS we get all season weather, hot, humid, dry, rain, sleet, snow, etc..

My tire sizes = Front 245/40/18 Rear 275/40/18
I wanted to go with Falkin, but I may just ned to realize that My car is Daily Drivin on the Streets and not on the Track...

I've got Falken ZE912 which I absolutely love. 40K warranty. Wet traction is phenomenal. Only problem in your case is they only go to 265 width.

ahh yeah i had 265... didnt look good ... 275 is just right i dont think 285 will look good... may bulge..

i have toyo t1r's 245/35/19 front, and 275/35/19 rear....so far so good....i would buy em again

DFW is just a great climate spot to justify the additional cost of running Michelin Pilot Sport PS/2 tires (one click-down is Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires).

Since your climate is mostly summer-like as to tire-seletion (sleet and freezing weather is short-lived in DFW), you can probably run one set of summer performance tires year around. You only need to mount tires that stick well on wet roadways. That's why I mention directional summer performance tires.

BTW: Really like your wheels (black spokes and a polished rim with a Redline Z).

I'm on my second set of Toyo T 1Rs; good wet/dry grip, quiet, comfy ride. Got 25,000 miles from 1st set. Per others on here, sidewalls not strong enough for the max cornering crowd.

Paid $725, delivered, for this set.

tread life
noise
comfort
resistance to impact

I have Falken FK452s on my Z now, and I like them. I don't take the car to track, and for daily driving, they are pretty good.

+1 for what he is doing with his car , great tires. Nitto Invo's are my #1 choice for DD, but they cost a bit more and are stickier. Also quieter, which may be a factor to you.

I also live in Dallas area. I replaced OEM RE040 to RE050A PP and after 7k miles, doing very well on both dry and wet. I paid a little bit more than 1k for everything and lifetime alignment at Firestone.

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position.

Very good dry traction and wet traction is very good as well. Hardwall is strong, so no flexing. Bit on the heavier side, but they're perfect for daily driving.

My sizes are 245/35/19-275/35/19.


I also had these on my stock wheels in stock sizes. Same results.

You have got to be kidding me. I got these in 265/35 F and 285/35 R and while the dry and wet traction were really really good for a "luxury" tire the sidewalls were MUSH, and I mean COMPLETELY crap. Very comfortable cruising, but once you made a hard jolt to either side or if you were at high speed on the highway VERY UNSTABLE. I went back to tirerack 17 days later and traded them for KDW2's.... The KDW's are a really good all around tire, stiff enough sidewall, good traction (once they are warm) and pretty good in the rain... (tad loud, but then again I have a performance car so it's expected)

As for the TR1's also had them and they were CRAP, mush sidewall and no traction.

My pick the KDW2's but I would not run them on the track competitively. Eventhough I did place 1st in an event I ran with the KDW2's. Not a very good event, but they performed better than I thought they would.

OHHHH and the best part of all the KDW2's are cheaper than the RE01A PP's. And I went wider with the KDW2.... 295/35 in the rear, but they are more expensive than the TR1's.... But I wouldn't run the TR1's if my life depended on it and im not even boosted...

Vredestein Sessanta's.....245/35/19 and 275/35/19...unbelievable ride quality, very happy with them so far. Haven't driven with them in the rain yet so I can't tell anything about that. Great Price too.
