powdercoating stock rims
I really like the stock rims (read: no money for rims), but i want to stand out a bit. thinking about powdercoating them gunmetal grey... car is silver alloy. anyone have pics of a powdercoated stock 06+ 18 inches? prefer on a silver in gunmetal. thanks!

Don't do it. Not only do they look bad but it's proven that they weaken the spokes.
On a side note, powdercoating rims ain't cheap. Why don't you take that money and save up for wheels that are already colored the way you want plus look better than stock?

I guess all the Scooby guys with powdercoated forged wheels are all sitting on ticking timebombs???
Low-temp powdercoating will not compromise the wheels, forged or cast. Just make sure you have someone do the powdercoating work that is well-versed in the process. I have driven tens of thousands of miles on my old set of powdercoated wheels (previous car) without issue. I know plenty of bike guys with powdercoated frames, and there are a bunch of Scooby guys here in St Louis with powdercoated wheels on their track vehicles.
Forged parts (like any aluminum part) will overage if overexposed to high heat for a significant length of time, but if you have a powdercoater that is more professional than just some jackass with an oven, they should have no problem doing low-temp powdercoating, and it only takes about 15 minutes regardless. Powdercoating forged parts is talked about at length on metalurgy/industry forums too since this comes up often on car forums, with the same response. Oh, and if you ever bend a forged wheel, that's how it's going to be straightened.
Looks are subjective, but powdercoating is going to yield much better results than paint.
