Runflats are good for the regular daily driver that doesn't do any track time or doesn't worry about the small loss in performance. They're safer (I guess) because you can drive on them with loss of air pressure. You also don't need to worry about having a spare tire in the rear of the car.

Keep in mind runflats are heavier and more expensive.

Here's a current example of pricing difference:

i had a set of eagle f1 runflats. They are some loud tires. This is a big reason why corvette owners never go back to their stock run flats. It was nice to know that i don't have to have a spare in the rear or that i can drive home incase anything happens.

It's time for an update after ten years of development.

Still heavy and with crazy stiff sidewalls. Not much can/has changed, the side walls have to be super stiff to hold up the car without positive pressure thus negatively affects the ride quality, steering, and certain aspects of handling.

Runflats are still garbage. Heavy, loud, can't repair, less performance, and in my experience wear out much quicker. In almost 15 years of driving, the only time I had a "moment" with any tire failure was the runflat on my mother's Mini Cooper S which literally exploded on the highway. Lets just say I can't believe I didn't have to change my underwear. Tires were not bald, no pressure warning light, and car was driving fine right before it happened. After that, I lost the little amount of respect I had for runflats. Waste of money.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone measured the weight difference of 4 run flats vs the weight of our spare?

Most tire websites (like therack) have the weights listed. Manufacturers commonly list them as well under spec sheets. You have to do a bit of searching.

i ditched them on the vette, a full set of runflats in z06 sizes ran about $2200. i put on MPSS for a little over half that price, with improved ride, handling, and cabin is quieter now. with the extra money, i got a AAA membership since i dont have a spare
