Q: I bought a base model Z. Can I buy sensors or wheels from another model and put them on my car?
A: Yes you can but they won't show the pressure on the multi-function display (triple-meter) or warn you when the pressure is too low. Your car doesn't have the antenna to pick up the signals from the sensors and your computer isn't setup to display them.

ok this is weird. I have a base i think because i have no controls on my steering wheel. however i do have the tire pressure reading in my display. can someone shed some light on this for me? i have a 2005

Do you have a "TCS" button on the lower-left part of your dash? By the gas door release.

You either 1) don't really have a base or 2) have a car that has been modified.

If somebody swapped the steering wheel out, that wouldn't be a valid indication that it's a base.

would there be any other ways to tell if its a base or if someone modified the psi gauge?

I'm in the same boat OP. I bought a base 05 brand new, no TCS, no cruise control, no steering wheel buttons, but I DO have tire PSI that shows up on my multifunction display. I know I have a base, and I know that I did not add them.

TPMS only came on 03-06 cars that came with 18" wheels. The base models all came with 17" wheels, hence no TPMS.

Please take a picture of the multi-function display that you believe is the TPMS readout.

i will go take picture in a few minutes. the psi display im talking about is is in the multifunction gauge. it tells me all 4 tires tire pressure.
also when tire pressure drops below i think its around 28psi it chimes and shows the low tire light near the gas tank gauge

I have the base with 17's and definitely have TPMS on them stock form the dealership, i didn't pay extra for them, unless they just threw them on for the hell of it. My car is being stored for the winter so I can't take a pic of it, but I can view the PSI of each tire, front and rear, as well as getting a warning when PSI is low on my multifuction center gauge. The same gauge that you can toggle between temp, MPG, speed, and tire pressure. When I take my stockers off and throw my summer wheels on, I can no longer see PSI.

Are you sure you have a 2005?

Tire Pressure Monitors Required on 2006 Models
April 8, 2005
All passenger cars must have tire pressure monitoring systems beginning with the 2006 model year according to a new motor vehicle safety standard made final yesterday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA.)

Also I have the car facts for my car. i bought it in september of 06 and the car facts says it was purchased in august of 05

just wondering that maybe nissan started doing this to the 350z later in the 2005 year after they were informed about the national highway law thing about having the tire pressure warnings in all cars 2006 and newer
