Yep, no other 350Z drivers have ever thought of this before.

I wonder if you do a search, maybe someone else might have at least asked about it in the past 6 years.

pros: you can rotate your tires and save money

cons: you miss out on a lot of handling characteristics that make the Z moar fun to drive

My car had 255 all around and I have VDC and it wasn't a problem. I know that you should have a staggered setup and some guys say the TCS goes all bananas on you if it's not staggered properly but my car was non-staggered for a long time and it's fine.

Guess it depends on the car for whatever reason.

I Second that, i am running 245/45/18 all around on 4 rear track wheels, TCS does just fine, and I get less understeer...

If you've done some research, you would have known this is not true.

Wow! …Tough crowd on this one.

I think you ask a good question, and your search will provide a variety of opinions with, unfortunately, a lot of arguments with misinformation and bad advice.

You didn’t mention your wheel sizes or your car’s equipment (if you have TCS or VDC). So… answering your question requires some assumptions. I’m assuming you have the same size wheels front and rear (a legitimate assumption considering a question that is asks about an “all-square” tire setup). I’m also going to assume this wheel size is 18x8”.

If my assumptions are correct…
  • The best sizes for an all-square vertical/staggered setup on 18x8” wheels (This setup works perfectly with TCS and VDC.): 245/40-18” front with 245/45-18” rear.

  • The best sizes for an all-square (ignoring vertical stagger) setup on 18x8” wheels: 245/45-18” front and rear. This size will be OK with a car equipped with VDC.

  • If your car is equipped with VDC, the all-square size you do not want is 245/40-18” all around. This size will result in unwanted VDC activation.

An “All-Square” setup’s advantage is the ability to rotate your expensive tires. Some drivers also prefer its more neutral handling (something I also notice). If you do install an all-square setup, you should realize that your car will drive differently because it has less under steer. That isn’t a problem for an experienced driver, but an operator accustomed to more safety from a staggered setup could be in trouble quickly with a neutral setup. Keep that in mind if you decide installing the same width tires front and rear.

Unfortunately, i have a 245/45/18 set up with 18-8.5 i believe.

it was set up like this when i got the car.

my dream is 245/45/18 up front
and 275/?/19 in the back

8.5 up front
9.5 in the back

we'll see what happens though...

it's fine, but there is a bit of sliding...
with a staggered set up, i assume you'd have a bunch more fun.

but rotation would be a bit worse....

iuno. just sayin'

the people on this site care mostly about straight line speed and looks.....

big rear tires help accel. and let u put big nice wheels....

so u'll hear alot of flak

look at the racing section and ask people that actually care about real handling
