Default will these tires work?

i have read the stick on the VDC but i am still a little confused. i have on 04 preformance with OEM 18".

currently i am running 225/45 in the front and 245/45 in the rear.
i am in need of some new tires in the rear but am in kind of a hard spot right now with money.

i found a pair of 255/40/zr18 at a really good deal locally, but im not sure if this tire will throw my VDC off...

looking for some advice if i should pick these up or if i should wait it out and replace the rears with the same size tires?

thanks for the help...

The 255/40/18s rears (>26.0") will be ever-so-slightly taller than the fronts (<26.0"). If you don't mind turning off the VDC until you get new (shorter, like 245/40/18) fronts, don't worry about it.

You may as well call this 4-square which I do not recommend.

You won't have any problem with your VDC-equipped Z running 225/45-18" front with 255/40-18" rear.

If the tires are a good deal, buy 'em and mount 'em; those rears will run well within this setup.

David,

I read your message and would like to offer these comments. Of course, any of this is very arguable.

If you go all-square (or near all-square) with a VDC-equipped car:
  • Never mount a taller tire on the front than the rear. That always fails with a VDC-equipped car. I believe that you would agree with that statement.

  • If you go all-square, you should go with the OEM rear size (overall diameter), and avoid a smaller OD. For example, mount 245/45-18” all-around, but do not mount 245/40-18” all-around. I’m not sure if you agree with this statement.

My comments and advice is based in personal experience running various types and sized tires. I am interested in your comments.

It's not that Im wanting to run the 255/40 but the tires were a good deal. On the other side of it I don't want to run something that will affect VDC or performance.

Thanks everyone for there post. I also see we have some that say it will work and some that say it won't.

Stop worrying about this. It will work just fine with your VDC-equipped car.
