Default Cracked Rims - Please Advise me

One of my front rim has a 1 inch hairline crack, please advise me is this is safe to drive on, is it safe to drive on even if i got it welded or however they fix this kinda crack.

They are asanti rims, suppose to be very strong but this one cracked.

Please let me know what can be done or if i can use it with that crack.

One good pothole and your rims won't be the only thing you'll be fixing.

call the company, get a refund and buy something different. Put some stockers back on in the mean time.

Save the tires while you can!!

could be a lot worse then just the tires if that wheel goes out ..

I'd say pull the wheel off and take it by other means to get it repaired, but if they are cracked, are they really worth fixing? meh.

I would want to get a different set, unless the crack was created by something that you think most wheels wouldn't hold up to.

That is a stress fracture that you can see. What about the ones that you cannot?

maybe you should not even drive a car at all if you have to ask if it is ok to drive with a cracked wheel.

Dont be dense... does it feel like a good idea to drive on it?

Call wheel mnf. Rims are supposed to bend, not crack.

Like i said, call wheel manf. and b**ch, be sure to throw in the "wheels are supposed to bend not crack, you f**kers could have killed me and my pregnant wife." If they are a good company, they will POSSIBLY send u a new wheel for you and your pregnant wife.

I agree with everyone else, call Asanti and tell them what happened. Hopefully as a minimum they will offer you a discounted replacement wheel, if not for free. Of course, what's to say the new wheel won't crack the very same way?

Do you remember what happened to make it crack?

And what about the other dimension of THAT crack that we can't see? Cracks grow when further stressed. . . K1c.

I had a cracked rim on my old car, bad enough so the tire wouldn't hold air. I took it to a welder (had to, it was a discontinued rim) and it took him 15minutes, and $25 but he cut the crack completely out, and welded/sanded a new piece in. I drove the car like that for 10k+ miles with no problems. The weld was probably the strongest point on the wheel, so I would not be afraid to have a welder fix it if you can't purchase another one just like it.

on your last image, there's a nick or gouge less than 1/2 inch from the crack. When you hit the pothole, if your tire's profile is short enough that allowed pavement to contact the rim, then you really cant blame the wheel. I would expect a bend, but there could be other factors, like perhaps you hit it during the winter when it was really cold.

I don't think I would take a chance on any cracked wheel. Even if it's welded in.

You may be able to get the manufacturer to replace it. If you want, pull the "I don't want to post pictures on my car's 100,000 member forum if you guys can help it" card. Be firm, but don't be a dick. Give them ample opportunity to make it right.

your tires.. what size are they and what width rim do you have them on? the tire profile seems very very very small.
