Default DIY: Going a shade or two darker with rims

I might buy these rims locally (silver) Originally I wanted gun metal or so ..
Is there anything I can use to just spray the rims to make them a shade or two darker?

Or should I go ahead with the hole:
Sand
Primer
Primer
Gunmetal coat
Gunmetal coat
Clear coat
Clear coat

?

Thanks

I would have a pro do it, myself. But you have to ask yourself: Is that couple of shades darker worth the money and/or time?

Well I'll hopefully be able to get ahold of some gun metal rims and wont have to worry about it otherwise I've seen some pretty solid write ups in DIY sections that look pretty good so I think I'd be alright

Thanks though - but will try go for buying gun metal rims instead of 'creating' them

Proper wheels painting needs some experience with overall painting, just to do it right. I would rather recommend you to find a place where they could sand blast the rims and then powder paint them.

A good auto body shop that does customization can paint them for about 50-100 each depending on design. They will sand blast them and you can pick any color you want including matching color codes.

In the Seattle area I can name 5 shops off the top of my head. I'm sure you have several in your area.

Weigh the cost of the wheels and materials/time to modify them and ask yourself whether it's worth the risk of the finished product not coming out good.
