why would you even want to put 275's on the back of a 8.5" wheel??

You won't get any extra traction, you will just have a heavier tire and ugly tire-bulge.

yes you can but it may not look the best. I have 275 on a 9'' and it looks fine if that helps.

Will look like crap and handle like crap. If you want wide tires , buy wide wheels.

275s will fit just fine, the sidewall bulge wont' be as great as others make it seem
I run 295s on 9" wheel and 315s on my 10s in the rear.
if you can post pics to show the others on here how they look

Your 295s are 20mm too wide for that 9" wheel. Your 315s are 20mm too wide for a 10" wheel. Are they 18s or 19s? What brand 315s?

Actually, Hoosier recommends a max of 275 on a 10" wheel. I found that out when I called to order 295s for my 17x10s, and they "highly recommended" I reconsider to the 275s. These were for the R compounds though, not the autox A compounds. Maybe their recs are looser for those trying to maximize contact patch for autox. I wouldn't know, as I run V710s for autox.

275 would come no where near filling up a 10" wheel.
based on what hoosier said, then everyone running a c5 or c6 or gt3 in auto-x are running the wrong tire.
315 runs over a little bit, but its square on the wheel maximizing the contact patch the wheel can put down.
on top of that, c-stock miata's are runnign 275s on 7" wheels, and destroyign that class, with no issues what so ever

I know autoxers run larger-than-typical tires on smaller-than-recommended wheels. I'm going by what they told me for their R-tire. I did not inquire about their A-tire.
