Default Have Volk GT-S', going to a Track day.....

Hey Fellas,

Gonna finally hit the track on a set of aftermarket wheels. I have the Volk GT-S' and I'm running the Axxis Ultimate Pads. My last times at the track left small little peices of Pad on the inside of my stock wheels. I'm not sure if the Axxis are going to do this but my Cross Drilled Rotors are a little aggresive on pads. Will these little pieces get on the outside of my beautiful wheels??

Huh? More aggressive pads always produce more dust. And, eat rotors faster than OEM pads especially at the track when they are getting heated up.

Your garage queen wheels are going to get dirty.

I hope you don't drop two with those wheels. Going to get pretty scratched up.

You're gonna get brake pad dust, pieces of rubber, and road debris all inside your barrels. I track mine every chance I get. The finish isn't what it used to but I knew that was gonna happen.

Lol, garage queen. Technically it is. Kinda funny.

When I hit the track I usually just go in my Kart or I ride in my buddies open wheel Formula.

Dude, Axxis Ultimates are about the most gentle of street pads. With little braking, they will overheat and fall apart. The dust is not corrosive, which is good news for your wheels, but if you drive at 70%, those pads are going to be toast.

Also be careful of the berms. A buddy bent one of his Volks by running tight on the track with a 35 series tire. That was costly.

The Track at Palm Beach IR is a relatively flat as glass track. I don't see myself having to worry about bent wheels.

I'm thinking the car wil be ok. I'll trow in 8 laps and pit for a while then go out again and so on. My car isnt fully prepped for road racing but an occasional day at the track might work.

Most tracks are flat (i.e. without potholes, etc.). Riding the berms were my concern. My buddy wrecked a front Volk CE28N at Laguna Seca. This is arguably the most popular track in the US - it is flat and well-kept.

95% of Zs at the track aren't "fully prepped" for road racing. Yes, even a stock Z can be taken to the track on occasion without issue. I'm simply warning you that if you enjoy the driving and drive even a little hard, the Axxis Ultimates will overheat and shred to nothing before you blink. If you are on the non-Brembo calipers, the rears will be toast even more quickly. Take a look at my experience below - this happened with the more aggressive Hawk HP+ pad in a single 20 minute session - the pads were new when the day started.

Lol. I know very well that the stock Z is not designed for road racing. My first day on the track was with my stock Z. I did about 6 Laps before I melted my pads to nothing and faded in the large sweeper. Luckily, the track was in conjuction with a 1/4 Mi and I was able to Ebrake to a stop instead of Off Roading. (My first day tracking my Z).

If I go it'll be a kind of fun thing. I'll run at 60-70% and just make a Day out of it. If I think its what I'm going to be doing more often then I'll swing the BBK. But for now, I don't track my car often enough to merit the money spent.

igear- PBIR on Sep 6. hookedondriving.com is the group. If I'm not on call or anything, I'll make it out there. I'll show you some pics of the vettes and vipers from Saturday @ Homestead.

If you are that worried my suggestion is to put a synthetic wax on you rwheels. It'll help get the large chunks of brake, dust, tire and grime off the wheels when you wash them. I have matte wheels, and I have brake dust thats so embedded I need a sander to get it out haha.
