It's nothing to do with being a Falken tire - as someone else said, its caused by (in this case a HUGE) impact, which has snapped the cords inside the rubber. Since those cords are what usually keep the rubber in the shape of a tire, without them the tire acts like a balloon in that area (just rubber with air pressure and nothing to keep it in shape). Another common cause of this ballooning is when the inner layers of the tire material tear/rip but the outer one don't, so air leaks in between the layers (to the outside of the cords) and ballons the outer layers of rubber.

Any tire (not matter what brand or manufacturer) receiving this degree of abuse will fail, especially if there is already substantial wear (which appears to be the case here).
Notice the first picture skynetz posts (and thanks skynetz for taking time to do this) shows a separation of the tire’s bead from the wheel. The same is true in the pictures ATX350 shows in his message.
Certainly breaking the tire’s bead from the wheel happens when there is a significant strike to a solid object (e.g., pothole, curb, etc.) or some other form of extreme driving, and you would expect significant damage to the tire’s integrity in this instance.
