XXR Wheels Thread
^^ In every picture, the front wheels appear brighter than the rears. I suppose it could be lighting, but the angle and lighting vary in the different pictures while the rear wheels remain consistently darker.
Could it be a manufacturing inconsistency among different wheel sizes?

When its in the garage or not in direct sunlight they are the same. It looks worse in photos taken on my phone which these were. Trust me, it has been irritating me since I put them on. They are most likely going to get powder coated anyways. I was just showing what the 531's look like on the car. I like them.
I'm so torn on the 530's and the 527's. 530s look nicer, but 527s are lighter from what I read and still look good . Also, not sure what would look better on a Silver Stone, chromium black or flat black.
Are you dropped on any springs or coils? What kind of traction are you getting with those? I'm running 265/35/18s all around and have no traction in the back. Trying to upgrade but just don't know what size I should get. I initially thought 275/40/18 or 285/35/18 would be best but if you're running 245/40/18 I might give it a try.

im on stance coilovers and have not had any traction issues. i use toyo tires and love them. i am going to a 255/35 in the back to get more contact patch. but i also am running spl arms everywhere and solid diff bushings. they make a difference. i get the race shop to align every 2 or 3 months also.

So I've heard... I'm really concerned, not so much about the fact that the paint is chipping as that is just cosmetic. But if they are counterfeit wheels, then safety is my primary concern as I have no way of knowing what process/materials they were made from. That's why I'm interested in comparing the weight of mine vs. someone else's. Is it normal for the paint on black chromium XXRs to strip off where the lug nuts mate with the wheel when they are cranked down the first time? I know there is a lot of torque there but I don't recall that happening with any other wheels I've had.
i have 6 black chromium 527's and all have chipping, 2 are brand new because 2 were chipping pretty good but the new ones are the same way. maybe its just the chromium?
maybe you and me are just special

I have read that the true process involved in making black chromium or hyper black wheels is quite involved and expensive (costs about $100/wheel to do correctly). The process involves plating the wheels with nickel and copper and then electrostatically applying the chromium. The cheap way of doing it basically consists of several coats of gloss black paint followed by a semi transparent high gloss overcoat. The appearance is similar but obviously nowhere near as durable. Clearly XXR isn't using the $100/wheel process because they would be losing money, but I'm also surprised because I did a lot of research on these wheels and saw no complaints of paint chipping. Maybe it is just a crappy paint job... or maybe this particular dealer is importing counterfeit XXRs from China and doubling their profit. I don't know but I intend to find out. I'll keep y'all posted.

Or maybe we are both rocking counterfeit rims. Where did you get yours?
