Default fitment: Rear Hub Bolt vs Center Cap (Non-Brembo cars)

Anyone ever run into a problem where the rear hub bolt protrude a tiny past your wheel face and popping out your center cap when you mount them?

If so, what was your fix?

Grind/cut couple threads (3-5mm) off the bolt?

Run a lil mini spacer (3-5mm)?

I've never had the problem, but grinding an expensive a$$ axle doesnt sound to good.
A spacer would do the trick.

Wheels won't look right without the centercaps though.

Here's a pic.

^ ya, thats how some of mine are........I once was gonna modify my center cap...since my cap actually came out a bit and wasn't flat..........it actually hit the side hub lip rather than the axle itself...Im guessing your center caps are flat??

Cutting:

About how much do you think needs to be cut?? will you loose the cotter pin hole?

Sure you can cut the axle, is it advisable? its your car...u decide....

If you were to cut it, i would remove the axle completely from the car, take it to a local machine shop and have them band saw cut it with a huge band saw that has coolant pouring on the work piece....you dont want too much heat....

the band saw will do a cleaner cut than any chop saw, etc....Also, prior to cutting go source a sacrificial nut and thread it on FIRST, so that you can back it out and help clean up the threads when you remove that nut after cutting... get it?

I have couple options though:
  • Cut the bolt. I figure I'd need to cut about 3mm, which will not loose the cotter pin hole. But it seems like too much hassle.
  • Run the spacer
  • Drill out the center caps - Don't know how much as my driver side didn't completely pop out
  • Get new center caps.

I would just run a 5mm spacer and call it good if you have room
