So as the title says, im looking for personal experience versus web talk and technical myth... real world "does it really matter at this point" opinion woul db more like what i need.

Maybe some autox guys whove had all sorts of tires under thier car..

Im very familiar w the good ol 1010tires.com wheel and tire calculator.

I wanted to get a very similar combo, but now im being told the rears MUST be bigger.. and im curious if thats really true.. i already have all the tires too... fun right?
Heres thier specs:

Current Tire - 255/30R20
Overall Diameter: 26.02 inYokohama S Drive

Rear Tire - 305/25R20
Overall Diameter: 26.00 in Pirelli Pzero Nero

So not only are they the same size, the fronts are microscopicly bigger.. 02.
Am i screwed here or do you assume w your collective experiecnc this should sufficient?

Aside from the driving characteristics of the "mismatch"....I just dont want VDC induced BS cutting fuel or whatever it does and causing me issues w a new engine and heavy FI.

 

You think maybe we been trying to trick you for 8 years with this 3 percent VDC BS?

 

No that is different than my question. 3% variance in total rd from stock..I'm curious about fr vs rear bias.

 

Drop to a 245/30 front to be sure. Of course it will handle like poo, but handling doesn't seem to be what yoru going for.

 

You might be able to get away with it but there will be times where it kicks in. When I drive my track/autox setup on the street to/from events, I occasionally see VDC kick in. It's a square setup so I have 0 stagger F/R. The times it does kick in are mainly in turns, either braking or accelerating.

You might also experience some weird handling issues with different front and rear tires.

 

to a degree it is.. handling for a daily driver, but no.. not for apexing turns and powering over top the red n white edges of a track.. no.

probably a cheaper alternative that replacing the rears w something larger..

might find someone who wants to trade.. im getting tapped out in the cash arena righ now.. FI is a drinking straw directly into my wallet.

But for sure thats gna give me hassles at .02 difference tho eh?

 

Not to get crazy technical but VDC looks at wheel RPM. We talk overall tire height and tire circumference because these are terms that are easy to comprehend. VDC expects to see a difference in front rear wheel RPM. When it does not it will shut down the car. Good luck.

If your button says TCS, you don't have VDC and this doesn't apply to you.


UHHH.. welllll....my button says TCS.. its an 05 Enthusiast.. so should i no longer be worried if i just leave the traction control off? I understand i do not HAVE VDC then for this to even be an issue?

This indeed cheerful news from davidv.

 

TCS looks for the difference between front and rear wheel speed cause by tire height, when that difference goes out of parameter, it cuts ignition.

 

i turn tcs off as habit right after turning my ignition key every time i get in the car..... so when turned off, i should expect to be "ok"?

 

Turned off no problem for acceleration, but then you have the other system that also looks for the difference in rotation between front and rear. ABS
