Default Using 245/40/18 for fronts

I'm going to be getting new tires and have stock rims (18X8F...18X8.5R). Anyone try 245/40s on the front while keeping the stock size (245/45) on the rears? You really can't go larger on the rear, but you can up front. I would think that tire might give less understeer (more grip up front) and it is approved for an 8" rim width. The tire diameter is with .1" of stock diameter as well.
Thanks

Give me an example!
You cannot go bigger on the rear (with 8.5" rim) without sacrificing something..I suggest YOU search.

^^ Lol.

Define your opinion of "bigger", and then we can tell you more specifically why you're wrong

READ SIR:

Note I said * WITHOUT SACRIFICE*
YEAH..you can*fit* bigger wider tires
Take a look at Hancook size chart here (click *specs*):
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....s+V12+evo+K110

Approved for 8.5"..any variation more than .2 stagger from STOCK STAGGER will throw off Dynamic Control Cars as well as create gaps and/ or ride height:

255/35... 1.7" TALLER
255/40.... .7" SMALLER
255/45... .4" TALLER

Approved for 9"..any of these will stretch the side wall on a 8.5" decreasing handling/cornering.
265/40.. (Also .4" SMALLER)
275/40.. (SAME diameter as Stock)

Like I said...all of these, in my opinion, have a *downside* which offsets any benefit of the wider tire and are a DOWNGRADE over the stock 245/45 size on this rim.

On the FRONT a swap to 245/40 maintains the stagger (with .2 of stock) and is approved for an 8" rim as well. That's why I ONLY ASKED about the FRONTS on this thread.

Really was not looking for Just showing you people have mounted a wider tire on the rear with 8.5" width wheels.

Well, this is the deal..you brought up the rears (I never asked about those FOR A REASON) telling me to *SEARCH*. A better response would not have assumed I was lacking this info....maybe suggesting rears without the *attitude*.
I wasn't looking for an argument.

No problems, just pair it up with a 275/40-18 rear.

Not for a stock width wheel, also you lose the benifit of less understeer when changing out to a 275 rear.

4-square is a common set-up. Your numbers are similar.

Yep. 275s on an 8.5" rim will be pinched. I guess it might also do what you say as far as the understeer still being maintained. Some might want that though.
