Axis Se7en Mod's : Driving Impressions
Ok, I know a lot of folks on this board don't like 20's, even though the outer diameter of the wheel is almost identical to the factory wheels/tires (17"s on an Enthusiast w/ 225 fr/ 235 rear; .43% smaller fr, 3.43% larger rear).
I also weighed the tires/wheels before putting them on and weighed the factory ones when I took them off; considering they have 22,000 miles of tread wear (I don't know how much tire weight lost that is) the rear was still 8oz (half a pound) heavier than the Axis with a 275/30 Toyo T1S and the front was 6lb11oz heavier than the Axis with a 245/35 Toyo T1S.
Granted not the gains people get with Volks and HRE's at all; but it's not really what I was going for. I wanted some nice looking wheels, a little show factor, some better rubber (and more of it) on the ground. I also got an excellent deal on them so if I decide I want something else I'm pretty positive I could sell them for minimal (if any) loss.
Driving: First thing I noticed is: it takes small "vibrating" bumps and "chatter" bumps 100x better than the stockers. There's 3 mile access road to/from my house to the main highway. It's a very good test for wheels/suspension. It's tight, twisty, two-lane, some smooth, some bumpy, some patched, some small pot holes.
Overall the ride is GREATLY improved in road shock absorption, road noise and handling. Hard into a turn, lay into the gas; no squirm or squish. Much more responsive.
Thus far very pleased.
For the record, they are 20x10 rear, 20x9 front. No spacers needed; perfect fit. I may put a spacer in the front however to make room for a big brake kit (there's room for a spacer as well).
So for a nice compromise of "show" and "go", I'm very pleased.

Good Choice I Also Went With the 20" axis Mods (I Have a "G")
My front Tire Size Is 275/30R20 (Mounted on 20x9)
and Rear Tire size Is 285/30R20 (Mounted on 20x10)
I Never asked For The Wheel Weights , from www.wheelstudio.com
I Only Asked If They Guaranteed The Fit. Which They Did.
I Was Originaly going with Tire size 245/ and 275/ 's, Like You Did
But they Recomended Me the 275/30R20 On The Front. (There shorter than 245/35r20,and closer to The Factory Outside Diameter specs.) and the 285/30R20 Looks Really Strong in The Rear, It Blends With The G35 Coupe Rear Fenders Better. Since They Are Wider Than Those Found On The Sedan...
Note: The Guys Over @ wheelstudio Have Told Me That The 20x10's Dont Fit On The Rear of the G35 Sedans.
So...245/ & 275/'s Are a Better Chioce for That Model (The 285's are Not Recomended To Be Mounted On a 20x9 Rim size)

I decided not to do 275 front because I want more of a rolled/rounded shoulder. I'm spacing the wheels (front and rear) out 25mm to get them even with the wheelwell and make room for some StopTech's.

I RESPECT THAT,
I HAVE HEARD THAT COMMENT BEFORE FROM OTHER PEOPLE ALSO...
JUST WONDERING, HAVE YOU SEEN THE 275/30R20 MOUNTED ON THE AXIS MOD 20X9?
IF NOT... HERE'S A GOOD PICTURE FOR YOU.
I PERSONALLY THOUGHT IT LOOKED BETTER. BUT, I HAVE SEEN THE 275/30R20 MOUNTED ON A 20X8.5 AND THAT LOOK I DID NOT LIKE AT ALL...
GABRIEL OVER AT WWW.WHEELSTUDIO.COM PROMOTED THE " 275/30R20 " SIZE IN THE FRONT TO GET CLOSER TO THE FACTORY OUTSIDE DIAMATER SPECS.AND MOUNTED BOTH SIZES FOR ME SO THAT I COULD DECIDE. HE ALSO GAVE ME SOME GOOD ADVISE,"THE 275/30R20 TIRE SIZE WOULD GIVE ME MORE PROTECTION AGAINST PARKING ACCIDENTS." , AND BEING MARRIED TO "MR. DAYS OF THUNDER", WHO'S MOTTO IS..."CARS WERE MADE TO BE DRIVEN!" I CHOSE THE 275/30R20 THE TIRE YOU SEE BELOW HAS 30LBS.OF AIR PRESSURE.(HUSBANDS REQUEST) HE SAYS IT "RIDES & FEELS BETTER" ON THE FREEWAYS HERE IN L.A.
P.S. DID YOU KNOW THAT THE BLUE IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR CENTER CAP, NEEDS TO BE PEELED OFF SO THAT THE STAINLESS STEEL BEZEL.. "ACCENTED" WITH THE "AXIS LOGO".. CAN BE VIEWED PROPERLY.

Was wondering Jeff if your still liking your wheels. I really would love to get the 20" mods but i am worried that it may be to much wheel for the Z. Have you had any problems yet and have you noticed any decrease performace overall since your last posting?

No decrease in performance and still love'em!! I especially like the larger/wider tires in the rain/wet conditions. Makes a big difference.
I didn't like the way the tire "bubbles" out when you put a 275 on a smaller rim; I prefer having more of a wrap around lip.
And yes of course I know about the blue "stickers". They just would not come off and instead of messing with it and scratching it, I waited until I washed the car again (the day after actually) and a little soapy water and my air compressor and they popped right off. I was just concerned with scratching the center cap.

My ride is just a weekeend car used to relieve the week long stress, no tracks, no 1/4 mile races just open road cruising with some twisties up in the Arizona mountains. I think the 20" are my ticket to happieness and bliss.
I will post the pictures as soon as I get the wheels on
Thanks

I have a Track model. Will these 20" Mods (20x9 and 20x10) clear my Brembos in the front or not? I don't want to run spacers at all. I would probably do the 275/30 and 285/30 tires as well.

yes, they do make some 20" mods for the track model...
on another side note, I bought my wheels from wheelstudio and had a horrible experience. Their price was great, but one of the center caps doesn't fit correctly and one of the wheels had some of the polish missing from the lip. in addition, they didn't send me hub rings or the "lug key", even though I paid for both. They kept promissing to send them out, and 4 months later, I still haven't heard anything.
I would never buy from them again. Just a kind warning about my experience.

Thats weird . I have the same problem with one of the hubcaps not fitting correctly too. I purchsed it from wheel studio. I bet they mixed ours up. I'll look for the hubcap and PM you maybe we can swap over the mail. I just have been riding around with 2 fronts OFF.
Acutally, i just looked for it but cant find it. I must have lost it. would you be willing to sell that front NON fitting hubcap? I bet it fits the wheel that I have since non of the 4 caps that I had fit it.
send PM with price, if your up for it.
