Smile New tire time.. What are people running on Stock 18 rims?

So it is tire time for me and I was looking at 235/40/18 on front and 255/45/18 on rears, on stock 2008 18' rims. anyone run this before have any input on what the best set up is that is wider than stock 225 and 245.

I am looking at the Sumitomo HTR A tires. Something that has a high tread wear (around 500), year round tires and isn't 200$ a tire. Anyone run this tire before?

I know that there are many threads about this but they are around 200 pages of post and they are quite old threads. I was wanting some input on tires and size

Thanks

Can't speak to the All Season Sumitomo but as a datapoint, have been very pleased with the performance of the Sumitomo HTR Z3 (not the Z2, very big difference). Ran those on stock Track V1s in stock size and they were the best tire in the low price Max Performance class. They tested second only to the Dunlop SP Sport TTs on Tire Rack (no longer made but the Sumitomo lives on).

But... if it's all season you need (and run in cold/near freezing temps), this isn't the tire for you. Just additional data for you.

In all season, I run a set of Michelin Sport A/S (non-Z application) and like them; but where I live, "all season" just means a few weeks of rain per year, no snow, no ice.

Best setups

245/40-18 front and 245/45-18 rear

A little more perforce orianted

245/40-18 front 255/40-18 rear.

Tire brands and models, well there are tons of opinions , it really depends on your needs.

I ran 240/40 front and 245/40 rear on stock 18x8” wheels for several years on my 2003 Performance model 350z.

I really liked this setup, but it would result in over-steer when pushed hard. It was “pure” fun to drive because it was so responsive.

As terrasmak mentions, you can get more predictable handling going with a wider rear tire.

The continent dws are a good all season... Might as well get stock sizes if your keeping stock wheels, and all season tires.

My stocks sizes were the same as yours... so I upgraded to:
245/40-18 front
265/40-18 rear

My car is an '03 Touring but I'm running '06 V2 Touring wheels (8" front / 8.5" rear)
Tires are Hankook Ventus R-S3 for DD and track use in Florida so no worries about cold.

Keep in mind you have to maintain certain size ratios to keep the VDC happy.

It really comes down to what your budget is in terms of recommendations. Continental DWS is an outstanding tire if you need an all season that can handle shallow snow. Outside of that, the Nitto Invo is an amazing daily "luxury" tire for a good price. Handles great, and has the tread pattern to minimize road noise. I've had two sets on personal cars, and absolutely love them.

Actually I say that for the change in gear ratio, and with most brands , tire selection.

This combo usually have better tires abailable and it's a slight change is basically gear ratio for better acceleration.

Just a thought but if your going to be driving the car in
Any snow the last thing your going to want is a wider rear tire

Ended up going with the Falken PRO4 A/S, stock tire sizes. The 600 Treadwear is what made me go with them and they were only 830$ mounted and balanced.

Default Hijacking

I myself am in the market for a new tire setup. Currently on NT555, 245/40/18 and 275/35/18. anyone have experience or an opinion on Nitto's NT05? Or another tire that they like. This coming season is most likely the last I'll need a "street" tire. But the car only sees maybe 5k miles on the road. Prob wont drive at all this winter so.
