Question Powdercoating Track Wheels

Hey all-

It looks like powdercoating my Track Wheels is a good option for me. I admit that purchasing some 19" gunmetal Rays would be sweet, I can't justify $4grand for new wheels and tires right now. I have just spent the last hour or so on researching the powdercoating idea by using the search function on this board...thanks to all that shared information on this subject in the last year and a half. However, I have a couple of questions not covered by any of the dozens of threads that I have read.

>Can parts of a wheel be powdercoated (not the entire thing)?
The reason I ask is because I would like to powdercoat the "spoke" or "star" portion of the wheel gunmetal and leave the center cap and "wall" or "rim" portion of the wheel silver because it will be somewhat original and the silver will match the door handles. (if anyone did their wheels this way, please post!)

>Can anyone reccomend a powdercoating shop in or around Charlotte, NC? From the threads I have read, I can expect $100 to $150 a wheel, right? It seems that most of you all have had the powdercoating done in Cali...it looks great, but I don't think that the shipping costs would be friendly from NC to CA.

Thanks,
PilotZ

Should I get my hands on a Track set I plan to power coat to match the door handles as well. Otherwise, I'll get my Touring rims done over the winter instead.

I was quoted $360 Cdn at a local shop. They feel that they can get a pretty close match to that brush Al look.

Well, the door handles are painted plastic so there's no reason the wheels can't be painted either.

I was told that to get the color right, they might not use powder coating paint but some kind of lacqure (sp) paint instead which is apparently almost as strong.

Pilot_Z, I can try to answer one of the questions. About leaving the lip silver and powdercoating the spokes. I don't know if it is possible. My friend had his 2 piece Hamman's done at the same time as my wheels, but he wanted flat black spokes and a gloss black lip. He had to have the wheels seperated to be able to do it because the powdercoater said that he couldn't mask off the lip to do the spokes flat, bake em, take em out, mask off the spokes for the gloss lip because the second baking process would ruin the finish on the spokes.

I could be wrong, but that's the impression I got

Chad-

Thanks for the reply. After doing a little more research (a post in a very long thread months ago) I found these posts:

That's funny, I was to ask you to do that when I looked at it yesterday....
I have a question also, is it possible to powdercoat the inside (spokes and center) and leave the polished lip?"

anything is possible... but that is $"

I emailed Jason@performance, but no replies yet.

I might just end up powdercoating the entire wheels gunmetal...
I guess it just bugs me that I will have a LeMans with tinted windows and a carbon-fiber lip (in the future) and gunmetal wheels (which is a good combo imo), but then the silver door handles will stick out

Thanks for your reply to my thread.

Sure man, Glad to help out. IMO I think all gunmetal would look better with the track wheels anyway. Good luck, post pics when you do it
