If having the same size tire all around i.e 275/35/18's on all four corners provides the best traction/handling, why is it that everyone seems to be running 275 rear tires w/ 245's up front?

Is it mainly for the staggered look or am I way off on what I have been reading?

 

because the car is setup from the factory as staggered and all the computers (ABS, VDC, TCS) compute their algorythms based on a stagger. That being said, I use all 4 same at the track, and never noticed a difference on the street.

 

I'm not a very big track enthusiast, although I plan to get a start with my Z. I just purchased some new sway bars (hotchkis) and Will be doing rims/tires and springs in the spring time. I was just curious as to what effect it will have on traction/performance from my standpoint (someone who isnt very experienced when it comes to tracking cars)

the rims and tires are gonna cost a good amount of money and I don't want to make the wrong decision the first time. Plus I have seen a lot of Volk's for sale on the forum and hope to pick up a nice used set around tax return season

 

Because there is no need to pull 1g on the way to work.

 

I have run both ways on track. I prefer the 255s in front rather than the 275s, especially with the 8.5" front rims. Downshift uses 245s in front with 275s back.

I pull 1g many times each day on the way to work.

 

sways will dial up some of the understeer, but you should consider 245/40-18 front and 245/45-18 rear, keep the stagger and also have the same width tires front rear

 

yeah, there are people that run all the same sizes but i'm pretty sure that a 275 will not fit very well up front. I like the staggered look anyways, big tires are supposed to be in the rear.

 

I have 275/30/20's in the front and lowered it an inch they fit fine

 

What do you have in the rear? I just dont see the need for that big of a tire up front, unless you have like 600hp. You might just be going for looks though, which makes sense.

 

Yeah, come to think of it, i dont even know why i said there aren't people running 275's. I think i remember now that there are a few people with the axis mods in 20" that are running a 275 front and 285 rear set up. My fault

 

Yup thats what I have 275/F 285/R I was worried about the fron fitting but even with it lowered an inch there are no problems up front

 

correct if iam wrong but the term "staggered" means smaller tires in the front and wider out back ,,,,,,,,,, once again correct if iam wrong.
