Default Rev-Up oil questions? Will I have problems?

Ok so yesterday I bought an 06 350Z touring model. It has the rev up engine that I have a question about.
I have been reading all day today about the oil burning problem that this engine had and it has me real worried. I saw in the past a lot of people were able to get a new engine from Nissan which I doubt I will be able to get now as the third owner, since the warranty no longer exists.

I am not currently sure if it is burning oil bad yet since I just got it. But I have a few questions.

1. How do I tell if the engine version I have is the one that had the oil burning problem or the V2 model.

2. If I do have the one that has the oil burning problem, is that really a bad thing? I don't care about having to get oil changes more often I just don't want the engine to fail before it should.

3. The place I bought it said it had been taking a synthetic blend oil. Is this bad or is this normal? And what should I oil should I put in it if it does start burning through oil?

Sorry for the questions but reading this site has really made me nervous the 24 hours. I have wanted to get a Z for a long time and finally found what I thought was perfect for me.

since you have a touring, does it happen to be automatic?

Firstly, welcome to the forum and congrats on your new 350Z. If you use the search function, there is a sticky giving information about TSB's and oil consumption etc on rev up engines. Until you satisfy yourself what the situation is with your engine just keep your eye on how much oil you are using. I would use a fully synthetic oil like Millers or Mobil 1 10w 30. Did you get any paperwork/history with the car that shows if the previous owner/s acted on the TSB?

I have read around, i did not get any info on past tsbs, but i do have the carfax and i see nothing on the service report. Is there is no information in which 350z have this issue, as in date made. Or if there is an engine code to tell. I mean i bought the car yesterday and love it, i am just worried i made a mistake.

Correct me if I"m wrong, but only 05-06 standard transmissions/rev-up motors experienced this issue. It wasn't all motors, but a lot of them. It has to do with the piston rings.

I"ve had my 05 Rev-UP awarded a replacement motor for free from Infiniti, well I have a G35. Same engine, but here is what I would tell you. If you want to know right now if you have an issue. Call Nissan consumer affairs, open a ticket to make a claim to do an oil consumption test. Take your reference number to a dealership. Have them do the oil consumption test which is them changing your oil and then checking your dipstick every 1,000 miles until 3,750 marking consumption levels.

Consider yourself lucky you got the 06, because you won't have your syncros go out in your transmission, due to the new CD009 transmission. Late 05's have the new CD009 transmission so I missed that bullet too with mine being a late 05. Before 05 your transmission will start grinding gears even when changing fluid every 30k miles.

I have an 2006 6MT with 108,000mi on it.

I bought it used at 80,000mi so I have no idea if the engine has been previously replaced. I don't believe I have the oil consumption issue, I consume under 1 litre between oil changes and I drive the car hard.

I stressed about it when I first got it but after 3yrs and the car running like a champ I am pretty confident in the engine.

I contacted Nissan and they said my Vin # was not included in this TSB. How is that possible? I thought it was all vins with rev up engine?

Read again the first paragraph written by Theejudge35. So not all motors were affected, you have confirmation of this from Nissan. It appears you are in the clear. If you're still not satisfied then I can only suggest you keep your eye on the oil (which you should be doing anyway) until you get to know your car better but as mentioned by other forum members above it looks like you're in the clear. Panic over, now start to enjoy your ride.

Just check your oil once a week and you should be fine!!!!!

Talking Do not fear this year Z

I bought an '06 new and have put 133000 miles on it to date. Do not fear this car. Just watch it like a hawk. I have loads of fun with mine. Track days, and mods aplenty. It's a good car to have and drive. With the Rev-up engine you get a bit more HP to play with. You also get slightly bigger brake rotors than the earlier cars. It also comes with the preferred airbox. Drop in a K&N air filter and maybe some better brake pads (Carbotech or EBC...) and you are on your way.

As far as oil, I have used Mobil 1 oil and filters for quite a bit of my cars life. Yes, it consumes a quart or so between changes. Upkeep is a must on these cars. Recently I have changed to AMSOIL synthetic in all fluids (Engine Oil, Tranny Oil, Rear Diff Oil). Admittedly it's a philosophical choice, but they are longer lasting than most others on the market.

I expect my car to continue to use oil between changes. It's a small price to pay for such a great car to drive.

I don't know why anyone still recommends K&N air filters still. Have you ever done a UOA with a K&N filter? If you're going to suggest someone get a K&N, at least suggest they will also want to disconnect the PCV system so they are not ingesting a ton of abrasive dust directly into the oil.

Play it safe and get a Fram air filter, or AFE.

So I checked my oil today for the first time. The oil was changed by dealership 400, that is 4 hundred i didn't miss a zero, miles ago. The oil when I checked the car cold was only half way up the part of the dipstick that registers oil. That cannot be good.

Did you check the oil before?

I wouldn't just assume the dealer put in the perfect amount. But I think top hash mark to bottom mark on the dipstick is approximately 1litre. So if you actually did consume 500mL in 400miles then no that is not good at all. Top it up and then keep it an eye on it for a bit.

I am changing to amsoil synthetic 5w-30 tomorrow. So I will monitor where on the dip stick 5 quarts puts me and where I am at every 400-500 miles.
That way I know where it is.

I picked up my 06 brand new and luckily have no oil consumption issues. The car has 55,000 KM and I've been running Motul 5w30 for the last 5 years. Overall the car has been mechanically solid... No major issues to report. I also installed an ARC oil pan as preventative plan. This oil pan allows you to run an extra quart of oil.

I wish I could have that much after 400 miles.

Solution? A type of krankvent that doesn't seal perfectly on the 5/8th line, allows pressure differential inside the sump yet still retains a vacuum in the crankcase during WOT.

Krankvents are only in 1/2" and are expensive, so you need a custom valve. You could try a Supra TT PCV valve, which slips inside the hose perfectly. Supposedly you will gain a decent amount of power, however I noticed slightly the opposite.

Looking at the carfax the service record hat and oil change every 6000 miles. I assume if there was no oil in the engine they would have said something. Unless the previous owner planned to add a quart ever 1k like I may have to do

To be honest, adding 1qt of oil per 1k miles is actually a good thing. You get a TBN spike. The only downsides are actually letting it get too low and possibly fouling plugs and o2's.
