Question 350Z Car Audio Help Needed...

I am hoping to find help in choosing a car stereo that will both fit my car and meet my needs. I am not super into car audio stuff but like to listen to music and would like to update the factory system. I am not sure if I will attempt installation or pay someone else to do it, most likely the latter.

I own a 2008 Nissan 350Z Touring edition. It currently has the factory Double DIN CD changer and set of 6 BOSS speakers installed.

I believe I would like to keep the speakers.

Here are the options I want the headunit to have:

  • Connect to my iPhone – to call and play music
  • Have a built in Bluetooth – the sound quality from the in-car microphone is terrible
  • Play CD +/- R discs – if it is not outrageously more expensive I would like it to play DVDs (including DVD +/- R)
  • Connect to my steering wheel controls.
  • Have built in GPS - or sync with my iPhone where I can see the iPhone display on the screen
  • Connect to the existing XM Satellite Radio antenna
  • Have an input for a rearview camera

In addition, I want to install a color rearview camera system that can receive a good picture in both the daylight and dark. So I will need the camera, wires, brackets and anything else required for installation.

As someone who is not proficient in car audio installation I need guidance as to:
  • The installation bracket needed to install headunit into dash
  • The wiring harness to allow it to connect with the already installed, factory, 6 speaker BOSS system
  • The wiring harness that will connect it to the steering wheel controls

Thank you so much for any advice you can provide,
Andy Bebow

Andy, since you seem to somewhat new to this, go here:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-sAhoffQIXuk/

This company has been around for over 40 years and they not only have a decent product selection but you can LEARN a lot about car stereo on this site.

Prices aren't always the best but I've done biz with them a few times in the last few years just because I used their reference materials to help me learn stuff. (My basic philosophy is to give preference to vendors with good service and advice.... like many of the vendors here on this site.)

Other bit of advice is to set a budget. Good ol' iiDeadEyeii's got some good stuff listed on his post but it also comes at a price! Gotta love how he spends YOUR money so freely. Heh heh.

Cheers,
Mic

Thanks for the responses. I specified that I am not an audiophile for a reason.

I want to replace as little as I have to in order to use my phone through my car without holding it and play music from my phone through the car speakers. I like the rearview cameras and there are some pretty major blind spots in this car...

I will not be adding amps, sub amps, sub-woofers, etc.

I'm far past a point in my life where I would want or appreciate any of that. Jimmy Buffett, Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, The Grateful Dead, etc sound fine without it vibrating other cars close to me.

So I have shopped on crutchfield for a while - they do have a great site. Thanks for the advice.

I have realized another obstacle is that I have an iPhone 6, which makes everything more complicated.

I've been happy with my JVC KW-AV60BT have on factory amp except I ran 2 10" kickers off a 500w mono sub amp. I do plan to eventually install my Focal 6 3/4 components possibly in back for more highs becaus 2 10 s is actually a lot of bass for such a small car lol I also have a rear camera and bypassed e brake for DVD playback.
