350z rattling issue
Alright guys, so I've had my 6MT 06' 350z for about 2 months now and for the week, on a cold start, i get a really bad rattle from the bell housing, and then when my car is decelerating or even cruising at a low RPM range(Around 2k) it'll consistently rattle from the bell housing i believe. i know i need a clutch but i don't think thats the issue, sounds like a really bad flywheel chatter but i know i have the stock flywheel. Please help me, THANK YOU!

It could be the throwout bearing is going, or the pressure plate is damaged. The only way to know for sure is to pull the tranny and physically check. How many miles are on your Z? Is this unit the original clutch/flywheel?

The Z has notoriously loud chatter in comparison to other cars. That being said, if you feel it's excessive, you may have to go dkmura's route.

120k & it's a big possibility that it is. Yeah I guess I'm getting a new clutch instead of coils, dammit

More than likely the clutch as others have pointed out. Yes the clutch on the 350Z is notoriously loud at idle when in neutral or going into first gear from a stop. But once you're cruising you shouldn't hear any loud rattles from the bell housing.
Ditch the OEM dual mass FW and replace the clutch disc/plate + bearings. While you're at it, inspect the clutch slave cylinder, make sure it's not leaking/weeping and make sure the rubber dust boot for both the slave cylinder and clutch fork is in good shape. Just my 2c.

I agree with dkmura. Sounds like when my TOB was going bad. If you're doing the Clutch/flywheel while you're under there do the Z1 CSC relocation/elimination kit. Can also do the Wilwood Master cylinder upgrade to fix ANY potential future issues. Won't be anything causing problems until your clutch goes bad in 100k miles. Haha

Just try a new clutch set up first. IMO, it sounds like it could be a bad or worn TOB, pressure plate, etc. Most clutch kits will come with a brand new TOB anyway. JWT and Z1 offer new TOB and SS slave cylinder lines with their clutch kits. I have the Z1 mild performance clutch and lightweight flywheel and i love it. Dont worry about the CSC elimination kit or master cylinder upgrade. If your car is used as a daily, dont bother spending the extra cash for those heavy duty upgrades. If you want to take precautions, get a replacement slave or master cylinder off of rockauto for your Z. Just expect loud clutch chatter when you upgrade your clutch/flywheel... It really isnt bad from in the cabin. I've been told it sounds loud from the outside lol but who cares..
