350Z Next to G35 Coupe
On the way home tonight I stopped by the Infiniti dealer and he was just delivering his first G35 Coupe. Parked right next to it and blew a few minds.
Fire engine red G35 and my 350Z Touring SS. The G35 seemed a lot larger than just the 8" difference in wheel base and definitely a "prettier" car. Very smooth and sleek. However the "muscle" look of the Z is much more distinctive. Even the sales manager thought the Z had a more unique look especially the flare around the wheel wells.
The G was certainly more luxurious inside, thicker seats and more leather and softer trim lines. The sunroof would be nice but I didn't see the value for an extra $2,400 with about the same equipment.
The sales people were still standing there with their mouths open when I drove off. I guarantee you that we wil have more fun with our Z cars.
Keep on Z'n
Still Jumpin for Joy!

crazy, my mom testdrove the white one parked next to the red one tonight. she actually felt the sedan drove better(granted shes no car expert) but she said it had more pep, which despite lower HP it is about 150-200lbs lighter, and could very well feel more nimble. it was a automatic without the sport package, but she opened it up(dead stop full throttle through 1st and 2nd)
and based on my unofficial butt dyno, I felt the Z had more power than that car could dream of. 2 days ago I was messin around, hit it hard off a stop light making a left, shifted to 2nd halfway through(I didnt over rev) just matched it and went, the back broke loose and pulled out a tad before hooking up again.
me and my dad who was in the car was like HOLY CRAP, shear power broke the tires free. the G35 coupe was doing no such thing, and felt very heavy on its feet without driving it, the sway and such made it feel very unstable.
just my 2cents.
I love the styling, but IMO the goal of sport coupe ends there.

ares: The sedan probably felt faster because the g35c wasn't broken in yet.
I saw two production g35c's (black and blue) for the first time today (saw it briefly at the NY auto show in April). I'm pretty impressed. Much more attractive, sporty and aggresive than the sedan.
Also, the linkage w/ the Z is definitely apparent--the G35c looks like a smoother, classier Z. However, I'm not sure I like the coupe's styling better than the Z.
Bottomline is that the G35c is def. attractive enough for me test drive it while I wait for my Z. Gonna try to get a drive in this week.

and before anyone says, thats totally unfair.
thats right, it is. I would like to try it, since Ive driven the Z, just to see exactly what its got and compare them. were heading back tomarrow night to give it another go, Ill tell you what I think after I get my hands on the wheel. that will be much better comparison rather than comparing the Z thats never gone over 4500RPMs and the G35 coupe which I sat in the passenger seat of. ( I have no problem beating on a car that isnt mine.

Went to check on my exact delivery day for the Z and stopped at the Infinity dealer side. I was able to sit in the G35 coupe and agree that it is nicer (plusher) inside than the Z. The Bose system works but is only 220 watts.
I told the dealer that some of the reasons I picked the Z were the aggressive look of the Z front end and that fact that it is only a 2 seater. Oh and of course the door handles.

infiniti didnt help that by producing it with 2 of the most blah colors, the red looks like a toy, not dazzling at all, and the blue... god the blue is just BLAH. silvers and white are not exactly eye catching, and black is of course classic, but its a staple of all cars, the G35C does not have any "Sharp" colors that youd drool over.
Wow, I just looked at that red G35C pic and went "ewwww"...That really is a blah red - doesn't do anything for the car. It's a shame that the red looks so killer on the Z, but does absolutely nothing for the g35c. Oh well. Looks like I made the right decision based on Wow factor alone.
To me, the G35 really has the look of a mere "sports coupe" - not a true "sports car" like the 350Z. Even the door handles on the G35 look mundane! I have driven Celicas for several years and am now sick of coupes, no matter how powerful they are. Give me my Z - - it is a beautiful beast.

IMHO I would say that the g35 is similiar in looks to the z except it is taller and not as "powerful" looking.
I PREFER MY Z BECAUSE
I LOVE THIS FREAKIN CAR!

Just returned from an up front and personal viewing of the G35SC. The dealer's floor model happens to be painted carribean blue which is the color we ordered. The actual color is stunning compared to the dealers paint chip and the infinity web site's color. We went in expecting to have the dealer look for a red one to trade, but after seeing the blue no change is necessary.
I am confused by the statement concerning the price of the G35C's sun roof. The G35C, premium 6-speed version, w/ brembo's, sun roof and a back seat prices out $300 higher than the Touring 350Z we ordered, w/o brembo's and moon roof.
Surprise, the G35C's back seat is roomier than we thought. Plus the back seat folds down to hold long items. To enter the back seat you fold the front seat's back forward then the front seat moves forward, driven by a servo motor. When the front seat back is unfolded the front seat automatically returns to its preset position again driiven by a servo motor!
Who said the G35C's interior is awful? Quite the contrary the G35C's leather seats are as good as the 350z's. My one complaint is the limited power adjustments provided; plus the pass. seat cannot be raised or lowered! My wife and I sat in both front seats, and for us there is more headroom than in the 350Z even with a sun roof.
However, as the pass. seat lacks a vertical adjustment we asked the salesperson to have service check if the seat can be physically lowered. My wife is 5"9" I'm 6' and both of our heads touched the headliner but only when seated in the pass seat. There is plenty of room when in the driver's seat set to its lowest position.
All in all we were very impressed and will "keep" the G35c and cancel the 350Z.
