Default Launch RPM

All things being equal, What do you think is the best launch RPM for 0-60? Anything above 5000 RPMs seems too violent, too much wheel spin, but I haven't clocked my speed at a strip. I don't think anything below 3000 RPMs will cut it either. The difference between an ideal launch and an OK launch could be less than a 1/2 sec, so it's hard to tell what's best. And besides RPM alone, what is the best technique for releasing the clutch (how much wheelspin)?

I realize that some variables such as rubber, HP and weight may vary the results.

Oh, and VDC on or off?

Thanks... Happy Z-ing.

This topic has been asked couple times already...

Anyways, VDC should be off. Also take most of the stuff out of the car (spare tire etc...) that you don't need and the gas tank should be around 1/4 full. Lower your tire pressure to about 24psi. I found out that 3k rpm and slipping the clutch instead of dropping it works best for me. Hope that helps.

If you are just going to drop the clutch...suprisingly around 2k works fine for me. If you are going to feather it yeah around 3,000 to 3,500 should be good.

Depending on the traction/weather I prefer the 2k drop if it is nice out then you can let the tires chirp just barely (with just a small bit of gas) and then floor it and you are off.

Usually a fluctuation between 3000 and 4000 works well for me. Except if i'm on the street just practicing and it is colder than normal 3000 is about the max without excessive wheel spin. I think alot of it depends on track conditions and your tires.

Thanks for sharing your techniques... but I think I just have to keep experimenting with this. Pity the fool in the way of my learning curve.

It's an intricate way of riding the clutch and letting the car move forward without much wheel spin. It takes practice to get it right without burning the clutch and/or getting wheel spin.

2000 rpm and drop. Baby the throttle until the chirps smooth, then WOT.

Also, I advise you to visit the "drag" forum for previous threads on this topic. This is where the hard core dragsters lurk . . .
