Why are we comparing 1/4 mile times and power ratings; is this the whole reason you people bought a sports car???

Most of you will never drive the Z to its fullest potential, yet talk about needing more power. What a bunch of crap talk!!!

You people seem to be very single minded when it come to cars, no wonder Detroit is still selling single minded cars to us!!!
Marco, why are you so defensive? Or offensive towards non 350Z owners...and because you come in on a particular conversation that focuses on one or two issues, does not mean the people having the conversation are single minded or narrow focused.

Just because *you* won't drive your 350Z to its fullest extent, does not mean that rest of us only take the car out for a spin on Sunday.

If you want I can send you my lap times from Thunderhill raceway after I go on the 23rd. There is more to cars than impressing the ladies you work with.

I posted because the Maxima's E/T should give hope to 350Z owners, who have the advantage of RWD and more hp, to obtain a 13.9 or better.
1. Yes, the Maxima is different than the 350Z. It has a less powerful version of the VQ35DE, it is FWD, and is classified as a "sporty" sedan. I'll reserve the term "sport sedan" for powerful sedans with RWD.
2. Yes, the mods are not insignificant, but they do not produce results on the Maxima like they do on some other cars, like F-bodies. I would estimate the mods gain 15-25 whp at the most. I looked on Maxima.org and it appears the owner has dyno'd his car to be 229hp, 230ft-lbs at the front wheels. I think that is less than what a 350Z makes at the rear wheels.
3. The Maxima driver listed his weight reduction as the spare wheel and tire and the rear seat. A stock wheel and tire is 50 lbs and the rear seat isn't more than that. I think his estimate is good, plus or minus 10lbs.

So, in the end, if a Maxima can achieve a 13.9, so should the 350Z. The Maxima and 350Z are impressive given that they only have 3.5L V6 engines (HP/Liter).

In no way was I trying to compare a Maxima to a Trans Am/Z28! Those cars are in a totally different class! I'm impressed by their performance, but I like the interior and amenities of my Maxima, thank you.
ru4real, gotcha...that confused me when you posted, now I see your intent. I totally agree - the Z has potential - and is potent from the factory. In reality, a few tenths ET is pretty close on the street, and like we've heard a thousand times, it'll come down to the driver.

FWIW, many many people are achieving low-mid 400s HP at the wheels with the LS1 with ported heads and a decent cam (still daily drivable). I realize this is far from stock, but to give an idea of the potential in the engine...the HP/liter on that is about .9:1 - which is pretty awesome NA when you have 5.7 Liters.

Soslo,

I'm sick of rwhp and 1/4 mile talk! And for the most part, that's all I see in this forum. This is a public forum and I'm just posting my opinion on the subject, and no, you don't have to like it!!!

Congratulations - this is a public forum and you don't have to read the posts that deal with things you don't care about.

I'm not expecting everyone here to road race their cars, but on the same token, I don't expect everyone to talk about 1/4 mile numbers. I don't have anything against non-350z owners, but there is a good reason I bought a 350Z and not a Camaro, Mustang or any of the so-called muscle cars.

Ouch, another subtle prod at the domestic ego.

You are the one talking about power numbers, not me!!!

WTF are you referring to? I don't recall saying that you were talking about power numbers?

So, instead of referencing future events (which may or may not happen), why don't you send me your lap times from the past???

What can I say? I haven't road raced the car yet. The 23rd is my first opportunity to do so, or I would have just posted my lap times. And you are right, November 23rd may not ever get here. Your condescending attitude might just explode and destroy us all.

To each its own!!!

Indeed.

BTW, I could send you my resume, but I'm not here to show off.

What if I am just curious? Would you send it to me anyway?

And believe me, in my line of work, there aren't many ladies to impress.

Ok, that was an assumption I made. I guess I assumed since you didn't want to talk performance, you must like the aesthetics of the car, and usually people who are focused on that like to show others their goods, otherwise you'd be a collector of art that was kept in mini storage.

What other reasons are there? I surely hope you aren't the type that thrives on super white interior light bulb upgrades and carbon fiber shift *****.

I'm not trying to bomb your coutry, just have a civil conversation. If I have to apologize to you for:
1. owning a so-called muscle car
2. talking about something you dislike
3. participate in a forum specific to a vehicle I do not own
then we are not going to get anywhere in this relationship.

We never just talk anymore
