Default Oil pressure Guage

I was wondering how accurate the stock guage is. It seems after I have been driving the car for awhile it appears to be reading low at idle. say below the 30pis notch on the guage. I have checked the oil multiple times. It is at the correct level. I run mobil 1 5w30. The car is a 2003 touring with 5,000 miles on it. if I go from a complete stop to WOT as I leave a stop sign or red light its goes back up to 90 or 100 like it should as I cruise on the highway it reads correctly also.

Hopefully this is normal.

Thanks

George

As long as it's above 14psi with the engine at normal temp, at idle it's within operating spec.

Mine usually reads about 25 to 30psi.

I don't know how accurate the dash gauge is, but chances are it's not as accurate as a workshop gauge.

I was actually about to search for this info, what is normal on the oil pressure gauge...

I have noticed not even WOT, a little more than half and it seems to go up pretty high around 100... Then from what I noticed at WOT almost hitting 120 so I wonder if that is not right

Humm I suppose it must be between 20 and 30 I guess if the oil pressure was low the light would come on. Correct?

I now have 12,000 miles on my Z and my reads as follows:
1) Cold in the morning at idle on startup - 90 PSI
2) Hot in the afternoon at idle - 15 PSI

Hey Thanks 311! so I guess there is nothing wrong. What brand of oil are you running?

Anyone else out there have any input?

Thanks George

i think 25-30 psi at idle is the norm. 15 psi idle is too low i think.

i've been using amsoil 5w30 and it seems to break down at about 3300 miles....then my oil pressure starts dropping.

my last oil change i drained ~1 qt only (at 3500 miles), and the pressure gauge was showing ~15 psi or less. i'm done with amsoil; gonna go back to mobil 1. my z has alot of mods though

and the oil dipstick is a POS...could never get a clear reading off of it.

From the Service manual: (These are based on using workshop gauge, not the dash gauge).

I am using Mobil-1 5W30 and change my oil every 3000 miles. 5 qts in and 5 qts out.

The readings that I listed in my previous post was off of the guage in the car.

Thanks
