Default Clunking noise after engine shut-off

Noticed it today for the first time...I have 1400 miles on the car. 05 touring

You just shut the car off at a stop and there is a clunking noise as something stops spinning...anybody else heard this? Should I take it to the dealer?

I think I know what you are talking about...my 05 does the same...sounds kinda of like a low clunk right after shutting it off...I vote normal!

is the clunking noise only audible when your door or window is open? If you have everything closed and in your cabin, is the noise still audible?

The clunking noise is coming from the transmission. If you shut the car off with the transmission in gear you can hear the transmission internals stopping and they clunk until they stop. If the car is in neutral and you shut it off its fine, I think. I need to test this out again I think, but I test drove a brand new 05 Z and it made the same noise but it wasn't as loud as mine. If you have the radio off and the windows up/doors closed you can still hear it. It bothered me until I took it over to my dealer and rode in another car...like I said before the transmissions in the 350Zs suck *****...at least as far as I know. Bad synchros, loud gearboxes (that extremely obnoxious chatter when you accelerate from a stop) and now this weird clunking noise.

Oh well, I guess I'll just play my stereo loud and drive around fast, but when you spend $33k for a sports car I guess you expect to not hear stuff like that.

It's "normal", as in all MT6's do it.

Could it be the motor mounts?

I hear it, but mine is just the pistons stopping. Every car I have ever sat in does it.

I just tested it again...if you have the clutch engaged when you turn the engine off you don't hear it...reason is because the transmission internals are not moving. If you have the car in neutral and your foot off the clutch and turn the car off you can hear this clunking noise from the tranny.

Seriously, if you have a 6sp go outside or do it tomorrow after you finish driving the car (let the tranny warm up for a few minutes) and see if it makes the noise.

Yup, that's the noise. I brought it in to the dealer and they went out and tried a couple of new cars on the lot and they all did it.
